Overview
Amazing opportunity available for a Power BI Developer within the renewable energy industry based in Bellville. This role involves building best-practices into BI layer building new BI dashboards maintaining and enhancing existing BI dashboards building a solid link between the Data and BI Development layers and ensuring that data-driven insights are accessible and actionable for stakeholders.
Duties and responsibilities
- BI development
- Develop, test and maintain BI dashboards embedded in the Syntiro platform ensuring the successful implementation of tasks from concept to deployment.
- Utilize best-practice and aesthetic visual design to bridge the gap between the back end (databases and algorithms) and the front-end (dashboards and data insights) and create visually appealing content.
- Transform data using relevant technologies (Power BI, BigQuery, Power Query, etc.) to the required format for BI dashboard inputs.
- Develop and implement internal BI dashboards and monitoring tools to enhance internal reporting to reduce manual effort and improve accuracy.
- Research and investigations into company’s business-related topics specifically Asset Management (e.g. energy, water, solar, refrigeration, HVAC, temperature and humidity, etc.).
- Ongoing drive to ensure best-practice BI and data principals are adhered to.
- Updating and creating technical documentation.
- Teamwork and collaboration within the Software Development and Data Engineering / Analyst teams.
- Peer reviews of technical work.
- Provide good feedback in retrospectives and other meetings considering stakeholder and user engagement.
Requirements
- Bachelors degree in Data Science, Engineering, Programming or similar discipline.
- At least 1 year of relevant work experience in BI Development or related fields.
- Experience with development of BI tools (primarily Power BI).
- A keen eye for visual design of technical data.
- Experience linking multiple datasets from different sources into BI dashboards.
- Ability to work within tight deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
- Strong logical and systematic thinking with an eye for finding insights and solutions within data.
- Attention to detail with high level of accuracy and quality assurance.
- Experience with development using other BI tools (e.g. Tableau).
- An understanding of basic electrical systems, energy assets, utilities and sustainability principals.
- Exposure to the Energy Management or Asset Management industries.
- Comfortable with Agile development processes.
- Demonstrated understanding of data processing principles, data warehousing, cleaning ETL and building scalable models and data pipelines.
- Able to write basic SQL queries.
- Experience working with GCP (Google Cloud Platform) and Google BigQuery.
