Job description
Purpose:

To lead, plan, control and coordinate all manufacturing functions to achieve quality, cost, delivery, safety and moral objectives, while ensuring production processes and driving continues improvement activities within the South African Bank Note Company (SABN).

Main Responsibilities (not limited to):
  • Translate the strategy into an operational plan; develop departmental policies and procedure to ensure production output is aligned with the company strategy.
  • Ensure effective process flow, proper control of all production activities and resource planning in order to achieve the business plan.
  • Manage the production team to produce quality product in compliance with quality standards and policies
  • Collaborate with the PEM Department to set priorities for servicing and maintenance of production. equipment, ensure staff members are trained to operate machines safely and effectively.
  • Ensure adherence to processes and systems for the safeguarding of security material and product.
  • Ensure optimal cost control within the department through increased operational efficiency, including overtime and wastage.
  • Source and analyse data and produce production progress reports to assist management with decision making, resolve problems and offer systemic or situational solutions to problems.
  • Work with supporting departments to identify and resolve issues related to printing and processing of quality banknotes.
  • Ensure continuous improvement and optimisation of processes and procedures by identifying problems through root cause analysis and providing solutions.
  • Champion Operational Excellence by implementing Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies to drive efficiency and eliminate waste.
  • Manage team performance, set objectives and goals and ensure high performance standards are achieved according to performance agreement.
  • Ensure development gaps are identified, and individual development plan (IDP) are developed for staff member to close identified gaps
  • Ensure the departmental training needs are submitted to the HR Department and actioned through relevant learning and development interventions.
  • Manage team in line with HR policies, manage team performance, develop team for succession planning.
  • Ensure adherence to all safety, health, environment regulations & standards and conduct incident investigations.
  • Manage compliance to all legislations, municipal by-laws and regulations relevant to the function.
  • Ensure adherence to the risk management plan, identifying potential threats or risks and proactively implement corrective action as necessary.
  • Compliance to ISO system and investigate all incidents and log non-conformances on Action-Hub, develop and implement corrective actions.
The Preferred Candidate is likely to have:
  • BSc or B-tech in Engineering discipline (Essential)
  • Production Management qualification (Desirable)
  • 5 - 8 years’ experience within the printing industry or in a production role in a manufacturing environment, coupled with 2-3 years’ experience in a management position, preferably in a unionised environment.
  • Specific exposure to security product control working within a National Key Point environment (Desirable)
