Requirements
  • Grade 12 plus an appropriate qualification that allows registration as an independent Practitioner. No experience required after registration as a Medical Practitioner. Must have completed Community Service. Current registration with HPCSA as medical practitioner. Registrars will be rotated between institutions. The following will be an added advantage: Work experience in the field of Paediatrics and Child Health; CMSA part 1 examinations; auxiliary courses relevant to the field of Paediatrics and Child Health.
Duties
  • Render clinical services, assessment and treatment of patients. Interview, investigate, diagnose, and oversee the treatment of patient related administrative duties. Participate in all activities of the discipline in relation to teaching and research, participating in departmental audit activities. Prepare and write reports. Liaison and community liaison services. Supervise junior doctors (undergraduate students, interns, and community service doctors). Willing to work longer hours (night, weekend, and public holidays) to provide continuous uninterrupted care of patients. Attend relevant administrative meetings like mortality meetings, near miss meetings and completing Medico-Legal documents timeously (e.g., Death certificate). Improve quality of care by providing appropriate clinical care. Reduce medical litigation by exercising good clinical ethos. Implement and monitor adherence to National Core Standards (norms and standards). Participate in multidisciplinary team to the management of patients. Perform practical procedures relevant to the care of patients. Participate in departmental meetings, journal clubs, case presentations, lectures, and ward rounds. Ensure effective administration and record keeping in the department.

Preference will be given to South African citizens. The performance of normal and commuted overtime is not mandatory, however it will be based on the operational needs of the hospitals.
