Job description

The Registered Nurse will render and promote cost‑effective, safe, and quality patient care in accordance with hospital standards and policies. The RN will take direct and/or indirect responsibility for nursing care of individual patients or a group of patients, including assessment, planning, execution, and supervision of care to meet patient needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Practice patient care according to scope of practice and assume total responsibility for these activities.
  • Contribute to the holistic care of patients.
  • Attend handover of report at shift commencement.
  • Recognize life‑threatening situations.
  • Communicate effectively with patients regarding their care.
  • Promote patient’s health and wellbeing.
  • Provide a detailed handover to the ward sister.
  • Audit health records to ensure compliance.
  • Ensure all stock is well controlled, managed, charged, and credited appropriately.
  • Promote and maintain good public relations with patients, relatives, and visitors.
Qualifications
  • Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Registered Nurse or equivalent NQF 7 qualification.
  • Matric qualification.
  • Relevant experience in a medical unit.
  • Compulsory Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced computer literacy.
  • Capacity to implement and maintain standards of health practice required by accredited bodies and health legislation.
