Our client in the manufacturing and engineering sector is seeking a Machine Setter to join their team.

Location: Port Elizabeth/Gqeberha

Job type: On-site

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Set up CNC machines (lathes, milling machines) according to work instructions or engineering drawings
  • Install and align tools fixtures, jigs and materials
  • Load programs into CNC machine using control software eg. Fanuc, Siemens, Mazak
  • Select and install appropriate cutting tools, drills or inserts
  • Set tool offsets and workpiece coordinates
  • Verify machine calibration and adjust as needed
  • Run a first-off part to check accuracy and conformance
  • Measure critical dimensions using tools like micrometres, calipers, gauges and CMM
  • Make fine adjustments to tooling or programs to correct errors
  • Ensure the machines are operated safely and according to company standards
  • Record setups, offsets, and tool changes to setup sheets or job travelers
  • Provide feedback to improve part quality process efficiency or tooling

Minimum Requirements

  • N4 diploma in Engineering
  • Post matric qualification in Mechanical Engineering
  • Training and practical application in CNC programming (Edgecam)
  • 5 – 10 years process engineering experience in the automotive industry
  • CNC operating experience
  • Computer literate
  • Knowledge of quality systems
  • Strong understanding of CNC programming basics
  • Familiar with G-code and M-code
  • Ability to work from technical documents
  • Interpret blueprints engineering drawings and job specifications
  • Understand tolerances, surface finishes and part geometry
  • Understand technical terms
