ALX Africa, a non-profit organisation under the ALX Foundation, is dedicated to unlocking the potential of Africa's digital future. Formerly part of Sand Tech Holdings, we've embarked on an independent journey to provide world-class tech skills training and career acceleration programmes. Our mission is to bridge the digital divide, upskill and reskill talent, and create a generation of innovative leaders. By 2030, we aim to empower 2 million Africans to secure sustainable tech careers.

With hubs in 8 cities across Africa and counting, we provide safe access to quality learning and a dedicated network of expert instructors. Our innovative programmes equip learners with the practical skills and knowledge needed to succeed in today's rapidly evolving tech industry. Through a combination of rigorous coursework, industry partnerships, and hands‑on projects, we prepare our students for in‑demand roles in software engineering, data science, and cybersecurity.

We achieve this by:

  • Providing young professionals with access to the most in‑demand tech skills that will power the future.
  • Empowering the next generation of technology innovators, entrepreneurs, and business leaders through challenging, real‑world coursework.
  • Building a lifelong, impactful community of tech professionals that support them at all stages of their career journey.

As a Learning Experience Designer, you will design and develop powerful, learner‑centered experiences that are practical, engaging, and scalable. You will collaborate with subject‑matter experts and cross‑functional teams to translate industry expertise into structured curricula, lessons, assessments, and activities.

You’ll apply learning design frameworks and tools to create programs that align with our institutional principles, integrate innovative formats (including AI‑enabled tools), and achieve measurable learner outcomes.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Design & Development

  • Design engaging, learner‑centered experiences aligned to outcomes and learner needs.
  • Develop lessons, projects, assessments, and activities using sound instructional design principles.
  • Apply design frameworks, templates, and accessibility standards for consistency and quality.
  • Experiment with new tools and formats (e.g., AI, interactive media) to enhance learner impact.
  • Support senior designers in developing curricula and learning experiences across multiple programs.
  • Assist with preparing course deployment materials and conducting final quality assurance checks on LMS content.
  • Work with subject‑matter experts to translate expertise into clear, structured learning content.
  • Curate and adapt high‑quality materials for online, blended, and experiential learning environments.
  • Document and organize learning assets for reuse, scalability, and version control.
  • Participate in content review sessions, applying ALX’s design frameworks and templates to ensure accuracy, clarity, and learner engagement.
  • Identify and document areas of improvement within existing courses and propose practical enhancements.
  • Help collect, clean, and organize learner feedback and analytics for use in iterative design cycles.
  • Support experimentation with new authoring tools, AI‑assisted design workflows, and interactive media formats.
  • Learn and apply HTML/CSS for minor course edits or updates on learning platforms, under the guidance of senior designers.

Feedback & Iteration

  • Use learner and stakeholder feedback to refine and improve learning experiences.
  • Track learner outcomes and integrate insights into iterative design cycles.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of team design playbooks and standards.
  • Actively seek mentorship and feedback from senior designers to improve instructional design and project‑management capabilities.

  • Creative problem‑solving with an eye for detail and usability.

Mindset

  • Curiosity and openness to experimenting with new methods and technologies.
  • Adaptable, detail‑oriented, and motivated to deliver impact at scale.
  • Growth‑oriented: eager to learn, take feedback, and build design mastery through hands‑on experience.
