Job Title : Laboratory Assistant


Location : East Rand, Germiston

About the Role

Our client, a South African company that specializes in the processing of gold-bearing by-products into high-quality, export-grade gold concentrates, has a vacancy for a laboratory assistant who will be involved with preparing, analyzing and capturing data of geological samples.


What you’ll be doing


  • Prepare geological samples through drying, crushing, milling, screening and splitting.

  • Determine and record moisture content for accurate sample analysis.

  • Weigh samples with precision for processing.

  • Capture and manage sample data using the Laboratory Information System (LIMS).

  • Assist with fire assay procedures, including weighing, fluxing, fusion and cupellation.

  • Handle lead buttons and collect precious metal beads.

  • Accurately weigh and document final assay results.

  • Adhere to all health, safety and environmental protocols.

  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly at all times.

  • Support laboratory team members with routine tasks and quality control.


What you’ll need


  • Matric (Mathematics and Science subjects preferred).

  • Previous experience in a mining or mineral laboratory environment (advantageous).

  • Experience in fire assay processes (highly advantageous).

  • Basic computer literacy and experience with data entry and lab software.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to follow strict procedures and safety protocols.

  • Good understanding of laboratory practices.

  • Physically fit and able to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Reliable, punctual and team orientated.

  • Good communication and recordkeeping skills.
