Job summary

A leading IT solutions provider in South Africa is seeking a skilled technician to set up and configure wireless devices. The ideal candidate will have a Matric certificate, preferably an IT qualification, and 1–2 years’ experience in the IT field. Responsibilities include troubleshooting networks, conducting site surveys, and providing technical support. Responsibilities

  • Set up and configure wireless devices such as routers and access points.

  • Provide support to end-users.
  • Create and maintain detailed records of installations.
  • Implement and maintain network security protocols.

Job description
In order to be considered the following is required:
  • Matric certificate (Grade 12) – essential
  • IT qualification highly recommended (N+ and A+ preferred)
  • At least 1–2 years’ experience in the IT field
  • Solid understanding of Windows networking
  • Technical support experience is advantageous
  • Strong problem-solving skills and technical troubleshooting abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English required, additional languages beneficial)
  • Ability to work independently and manage tasks with minimal supervision
  • Valid driver’s licence – essential
  • Willingness to travel extensively and work irregular hours
  • Flexibility to work 2–3 weekends per month on standby
Skills:
  • Technical Skills: Strong understanding of wireless network hardware, software, network operating systems and security protocols
  • Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify, diagnose and resolve network issues effectively
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to document issues, provide technical support and train users and colleagues
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to collect and analyse data to evaluate network performance and identify areas for improvement
  • Physical Capability: Willingness to perform physical tasks like lifting equipment and working in various environments
Responsibilities:
  • Installation and Configuration: Set up and configure wireless devices such as routers, access points and antennas
  • Site Surveys and Optimization: Conduct surveys to analyse signal strength and coverage, then optimize the wireless environment for maximum efficiency
  • Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Diagnose and resolve network issues, perform routine maintenance and apply necessary updates and patches to keep systems running smoothly
  • Upgrades and Enhancements: Implement upgrades to wireless systems to improve performance and support the introduction of new wireless technologies
  • Technical Support: Provide support to end-users, diagnose and resolve network-related problems and offer guidance on best practices for network usage
  • Documentation: Create and maintain detailed records of all installations, repairs, maintenance activities and system changes
  • Security: Implement and maintain network security protocols, manage security software and monitor for rogue devices to protect network integrity
  • Collaboration: Work with other technicians, engineers, and IT staff to design, implement and enhance network solutions
