Key performance area
1. Plan
- Plan all the maintenance activities in line with the strategic maintenance plans available on CMMS software (SAP system) to ensure systems of work, plant and machinery is safe for use, it is without danger to health of employees and readily available for operational purposes.
- Initiate strategic maintenance activities to ensure systems of work, plant and machinery is safe for use, it is without danger to health of employees and the availability thereof is improved.
- Ensure all instrumentation maintenance activities (including shutdowns) are effectively scheduled and relevant resources (i.e., people, tools, material) is made available for execution of work.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure correct quality and quantity of spares are available. Contribute and support other departs towards the Total Productive Maintenance to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness.
- Plan the leave, training, and development for the sub‑ordinates in line with the maintenance strategies developed for the department.
- Plan the execution of work in compliance to statutory requirements using OEM, RCM, 5Why and RCA processes to improve plant reliability and availability. Maintain acceptable levels of communication with various departments to enable efficient execution of daily business strategies. The communication with various departments shall include communication on Microsoft Teams, WhatsApp application and emails.
2. Organise
- Ensure the adequate resource (internal and external) is available for the execute of the work. The resource here mentioned include personnel and material resources. Organize resource to execute work in compliance to statutory requirements using OEM, RCM, 5Why and RCA processes to improve plant reliability and availability.
- Continually review the risk assessments for internal employees and contractor before work commences and enforce rules to protect the safety and health of personnel, and the protection of the assets against damage.
- Maintain the functionality and availability of the safety system. Maintain the operational availability of the instrumentation installation and related instrumentation control system. Contribute to the achievement of more than 85% plant availability and annual average production of 65kA.
- Organize equipment spares in line with the asset management strategies improve equipment reliability and availability.
3. Lead
- Be the OHS Section 8.2 legal appointee and custodian for the instrumentation installations throughout the NCP Chlorchem site.
- Perform Plan Job Task Observations and coach, instruct, enforce and/or correct any behaviour that poses danger against safety and health of personnel (including suppliers and contractors).
- Participate in 5S continuously, implement standards and enforce 5S standards.
- Enforce good practices concerning housekeeping. Ensure zero Lost Time Injury is attained in the Instrumentation department.
- Perform on-the-job training for the technician, Mechanician and/or Workshop Mechanician. Perform weekly audits/walkabouts to identify areas that need improvements to remedy as accordingly.
4. Control
- Compile reports on compliance concerning daily work execution by Technicians and Artisans.
- Compile diagnostic report on the root causes of breakdowns and determine the short to medium term plans to prevent repeat failures and/or plans for collaborative resolution with other departments. Enforce turnaround time of four hours to restore plant after a breakdown.
- Maintain compliance to company policies, standards, and instructions for the Instrumentation Workshop personnel including the execution of the actions determined from the audits.
- Ensure the asset care execution of work is conducted within the agreed budget.
- Ensure Risk Assessments are performed per task performed by Technicians, Mechanicians and Workshop Mechanicians.
- Collaborate with reliability engineers and other departments to maintain control over spare management.
5. Related SHERQ Responsibilities
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies
- Technical and Supervisory knowledge demonstrated and learnt in the Instrumentation field in the chemical processing plants or similar.
- Extensive knowledge of ISO 14001, 45001, 9001.
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety, SIL and Area Classification Standards.
- SHERQ Training course.
- Safety Work Permit training.
- Computer Literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Digilex and Power Point).
- Knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems.

- Be able to do basic problem solving and decision making and analysis.

Experience
- 5 to 10 years Supervisor/Foreman experience in engineering/maintenance management.
- Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Knowledge of the Area Classification and Safety integrity Level (SIL) Standards.
Qualifications
- Matric.
- National Diploma in Instrumentation Engineering, Equivalent or Higher.
- Instrumentation Red Seal.
Reporting structure
This position reports to the Engineering Manager: E&I.
Personal Circumstances
- Must be able to obtain a satisfactory medical report from the companies medical centre.
- May be required to be on Standby.
