Job Description

This is a pivotal leadership role reporting directly to the General Manager of the Business Unit. You will be entrusted with leading and integrating all HR functions—Operations, Employee Relations, and Learning & Development—to ensure our people plans directly support the unit's strategic objectives, all while maintaining strict compliance with regulatory standards. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence organizational design, drive significant change management projects, and shape the employee experience to position the unit as an employer of choice. You will be instrumental in developing strategic workforce plans, overseeing critical talent management processes (including succession planning and performance management), and ensuring HR analytics deliver measurable business value. Success in this role hinges on your ability to partner effectively with executive teams and manage complex stakeholder relationships, including external bodies and union representatives.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with senior management to formulate business plans and develop corresponding strategic people plans that enable future objectives.
  • Lead the customization and oversight of HR governance frameworks, ensuring processes are streamlined and compliant with the latest labour legislation and regulations.
  • Oversee the integrity of the HR Information System, ensuring data accuracy, timely reporting, and value delivery to business operations.
  • Act as the key HR counsel to the Executive Committee, partnering with the business to diagnose people challenges and implement constructive solutions.
  • Sponsor and drive Employee Relations programs, nurturing cooperative relationships with union representatives and representing the organization in central wage negotiations.
  • Direct and facilitate all talent management processes, including performance management, learning needs analysis, talent reviews, and succession planning, aligned with transformation targets.
  • Develop innovative workforce planning and talent acquisition strategies to build a sustainable pipeline of ready-now talent for key roles.
  • Manage the unit's HR function financials, including budgeting, cost management, forecasting, and reporting on the Return on Investment (ROI) of key HR initiatives.
  • Lead internal communication and change management processes to ensure alignment across the business unit during organizational transitions.
  • Direct complex ER case management, including representation at external tribunals for senior disciplinary matters.
  • Inspire, motivate, and develop the HR team, nurturing a performance-driven culture and ensuring continuous professional development.
Requirements - Must-Haves (Essential)
  • B Degree in Human Resources Management or related field.
  • Minimum 12 years of progressive HR experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years' experience functioning specifically as an HR Business Partner.
  • Advanced knowledge and practical application of labour legislation (e.g., LRA, BCEA, Skills Development Act, EE Act).
  • Proven experience in managing complex Employee Relations, including negotiation and representation.
  • Demonstrated financial acumen, including budget management and ROI analysis for HR functions.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, HR Information Systems (Peoplesoft, Kronos experience is highly beneficial).
  • Willingness to travel locally and work outside of normal hours as operational requirements dictate (including weekends/public holidays).
