Role Overview
The Head of Private Capital (Islamic Markets) will lead the firm's Shari'ah-compliant private markets investments, overseeing strategy, investor engagement, and the full investment lifecycle across alternatives including private equity, private credit, real assets, and bespoke Islamic structures. This role is designed for a private market specialist with deep technical immersion in Shari'ah-compliant investment mechanisms and a strong track record in originating, diligence, structuring, and executing alternative investment transactions. The successful candidate will be a commercial leader who can engage sophisticated global investors, build institutional relationships, raise capital, and close complex private market deals.
Core Responsibilities
Strategic & Platform Leadership
- Define and scale the Islamic markets alternatives strategy across private equity, private credit, real assets, and multi-asset private capital solutions.
- Lead the development and positioning of Islamic alternatives products tailored to institutional and global investor demand.
- Represent the platform at senior levels, driving investor confidence and capital formation.
Investor Engagement & Capital Raising
- Engage institutional and individual investors, DFIs, SWFs, family offices, and global allocators with credibility and technical fluency.
- Build long-term investor relationships, lead commercial discussions, and negotiate commitments.
- Drive fundraising cycles across Shari'ah-compliant alternative investment funds and bespoke mandates.
Deal Origination & Execution (End-to-End)
- Originating private market opportunities aligned to mandate requirements and Shari'ah constraints.
- Lead full investment process: sourcing, screening, valuation, structuring, and Shari'ah alignment.
- Oversee multi-workstream due diligence (financial, commercial, legal, operational, Shari'ah).
- Negotiate and close transactions across private equity, private credit, and real assets within Islamic structures.
- Prepare and present investment papers to the Investment Committee; maintain rigorous deal governance.
Shari'ah Governance & Technical Oversight
- Ensure all private market transactions and structures comply with Shari'ah requirements.
- Work alongside the Shari'ah Advisory Committee on structuring, documentation, and product governance.
- Apply AAOIFI-compliant standards across fund formation, investment execution, and reporting.
- Deep expertise across Shari'ah vehicles including Mudarabah, Musharakah, Murabaha, Ijarah, Wakalah, and hybrid structures used in alternatives.
Operational & Risk Management
- Oversee fund operations specific to private markets: capital calls, distributions, waterfalls, performance allocations, and restructures.
- Maintain robust risk, compliance, and control frameworks suited to complex alternative asset vehicles.
- Drive process optimisation, digital enablement, and global coordination to support scalable alternatives operations.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead and develop teams across investment, structuring, operations, and client management.
- Build a high-performance culture with strong private markets and Islamic finance capability.
- Drive succession planning, technical training, and professional growth.
Required Skills & Experience
- At least 10 years in private markets or alternative investment fund management, with direct exposure to Shari'ah-compliant fund strategies.
- Proven track record structuring, executing, and closing private market transactions in a Shari'ah context.
- Strong expertise in Islamic investment contracts and AAOIFI standards as applied to alternatives.
- Experience engaging sophisticated global investors and closing capital commitments.
- Deep understanding of private equity, private credit, real assets, and multi-asset fund mechanics.
- Senior leadership experience managing investment teams and multi-stakeholder environments.
- Exceptional commercial judgment, negotiation skill, and relationship-building capability.
Minimum Qualifications
- Finance Related qualifications e.g. Professional Accounting Qualification (CA, ACCA, SAIPA or equivalent), MBA, CFA.
- Formal Islamic Finance Qualification (e.g., CIFE, AAOIFI certifications) an advantage.
