Head Clinical Unit (Psychiatry) – Grade 1 / 2 / 3 Academic Level, Lecturer / Senior Lecturer / Adjunct / Associate / Full Professor

For Senior Lecturer / Adjunct : Master's in Medicine – Psychiatry (MMED (PSYCH)) or equivalent.
For Associate Professor / Professor : A relevant Doctoral degree.
A minimum of 5 years appropriate experience in psychiatry after registration as a medical specialist psychiatrist.
Proven experience in teaching and learning, and supervision of academic research in psychiatry at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
Demonstrated record of research outputs.
Academic, clinical and administrative ability to manage neuropsychiatric unit effectively.
Postgraduate academic accomplishments beyond the MMed Psychiatry level (e.g., Subspecialist Neuropsychiatry, PhD or other relevant), research publications; academic, clinical and personnel administration experience.
The post is a joint appointment between Weskoppies Hospital and the School of Medicine at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Pretoria.
Clinical service delivery : Development and management of clinical teams in a neuro psychiatric unit at Weskoppies hospital.
Evaluation, management and treatment of psychiatric patients in line with the Mental Health Care Act 17 of .
Clinical governance, risk management, coordination and oversight on psychiatric patient admissions, discharges, referrals, periodicals and other relevant areas.
Development of services involving inpatient, outpatient and community services.
Medico-legal services : Assessments relevant to neuropsychiatry, giving evidence in a court of law, compiling related administrative and medico-legal reports.
Forensic observations according to the Criminal Procedures Act and other relevant legislation as part of delegated duties.
Academic responsibilities : Teaching and training of undergraduate and postgraduate medical and healthcare science students and members of multidisciplinary mental health teams; in-service teaching and training of healthcare workers and other multisector professionals; research appropriate to the field and research supervision at postgraduate level.
General academic management and administration.
Accounting to the executive management of Weskoppies hospital and the Department of Psychiatry, School of Medicine at the Faculty of Health Sciences.
