Overview
To lead, implement, and continuously improve health, safety, and security (HSS) management systems across the organisation. The role ensures compliance with legislative requirements, alignment with ISO18788 and ISO 45001, and the protection of people, assets, and reputation through proactive risk management and visible leadership. This role will be responsible for providing occupational Health and Safety and Security professional leadership to all levels of staff, supporting, and advising all management teams, employees, volunteers, and contractors within the Omnia Group.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational health & safety, Security Management, Engineering, or related field.
- Professional certifications (e.g., NEBOSH, SAMTRAC, CPP).

- Professional certifications (e.g., NEBOSH, SAMTRAC, CPP).
- 10 years’ experience in health, safety, and/or security leadership roles, preferably in industrial, manufacturing, mining, or chemicals environments
- Strong knowledge of international safety standards and security protocols.
- Proven experience managing contractors, emergency response, and security operations.
Duties
Core Accountability
Strategy
- Develop and execute the Group’s Health, Safety and Security strategy aligned with business objectives and sustainability goals.
- Lead cross-functional initiatives to embed health, safety and security into operational excellence and risk management frameworks.
- Advise executive leadership on emerging risks, regulatory changes, and global best practices.
- Develop, maintain and report on HSS stakeholder engagement
- Lead, develop and implement HSS capability map
- Implementation of HSS integrated systems for governance and legal compliance
- Develop and continually improve performance excellence, through policies, standards and procedures, performance standards and inspections and audits.
Governance and Compliance
- Develop, maintain, and enforce HSS policies and standards in line with legal, ISO18788 and ISO 45001, and Responsible Care requirements.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with OHS Act, Mine Health & Safety Act, and private security regulations.
- Develop and implement combined assurance plan for HSS, including quality assurance
- Support internal and external audits, track corrective and preventive actions to closure.
- Develop and implement governance and oversight through inspections and audits, monitor corrective and preventative actions to closure.
- Ensure alignment with Group SHEQ governance, risk, and assurance frameworks (Three Lines of Defense model).
- Lead and provide oversight on license and permit requirements in line with local requirements
- Undertaking security risk assessments and updating them semi annually
Health and safety management
- Oversee the implementation of occupational health and safety management systems (e.g., ISO 45001).
- Monitor and report on injury rates, lost time incidents, and leading indicators across all business units.
- Drive continuous improvement through audits, incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Champion behavioural safety programmes and campaigns (e.g., Safety Campaign).

General
Core Accountability
Security Management
- Develop and maintain a global security framework to safeguard personnel, assets, and information.
- Oversee the implementation of occupational health and safety management systems (e.g., ISO18788).
- Coordinate physical security, travel risk management, and crisis response protocols.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders and external agencies on security threats and mitigation strategies.
- Crisis management, emergency management and business continuity response plans.
- Conduct annual desktop evaluations and make changes as required.
- Integrate info from travel security platforms and maintain links to special risk insurers for kidnap, cyber extortion
Stakeholder Management
- Collaborate with site SHEQ teams, HR, Legal, and Operations to align safety and security priorities.
- Engage with regulators, industry bodies, and community stakeholders.
- Support ESG and sustainability reporting, including disclosures on safety and security metrics
Risk Management
- Maintain and update the HSS risk register and implement effective control measures.
- Oversee security threat assessments, emergency preparedness, and crisis management protocols.
- Lead investigations for incidents, near misses, and security breaches, ensuring root cause analysis and learning deployment.
- Ensuring that contractor safety and security are conducted and implemented across sites.
Operational Leadership
- Develop and drive proactive safety leadership and culture in line with international best practice
- Develop and lead HSS community of practice to ensure development, cascade and implementation of best practice, standards and learning from incidents (internal and external)
- Develop and implement standardized operational safety leadership through site safety committees, toolbox talks, and safety campaigns.
- Ensure effective access control, surveillance, and incident reporting systems.
- Manage security service providers and ensure contractual compliance.
- Incident management – leading investigations, actions management, and systematic analysis, communication and implementation of lessons learnt to improve the HSS environment
Training and Capacity Building
- Develop HSS training plans and competencies.
- Facilitate safety inductions, emergency response drills, and refresher training.
- Build internal leadership accountability for safety and security performance.
- HSS communication and change management capability
Performance and Reporting
- Development and the implementation of HSS performance monitoring, controlling and reporting for the integrity and continual improvement of the HSS system
- Track leading and lagging indicators (LTIR, TRIR, RCR, AIFR, FACR, security incidents).
- Prepare periodic HSS performance reports for management, board committees and external stakeholders (investors and capital providers).
- Benchmark performance against industry peers (e.g., IFA, CCPS, API 754).
