PURPOSE OF THE JOB
- Provide financial and operational leadership to drive continuous improvement of financial business processes, resource allocation and overall sustainability of various finance departments.
- Put standards in place along with roll-out of effective monitoring systems. Manage Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) through weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reviews. Ensure measures in place to protect the Balance Sheet.
- Key focus on Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and system roll-out and implementations and related project management.
- Engage colleagues ensuring powerful link between ownership, plan, and implementation.
- Financial management of a growing African operation.
- Set standards for and manage the capital investment review process for the Group.
- Resource training and development.
Key Responsibilities
FINANCIAL BUSINESS PROCESS MANAGEMENT
- Review financial business processes with a view to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Focus to standardise finance processes across various business units.
- Focus on Balance Sheet sustainability.
- Develop and implement relevant review processes supporting the following:
- Month-end close off / Monthly review of variances related to paper buying / Ongoing balance sheet reviews / Quarterly stock counts / Quarterly stock obsolescence & revaluation / Unrealised profit assessments.
- Support business units through training and monitoring.
- Drive corrective actions.
CAPITAL INVESTMENT PROCESS MANAGEMENT
- Define and roll-out the capital investment review process across the Group.
- Develop and distribute the tools required (Economic Value Added (EVA) models etc).
- Drive adherence to the Group’s Delegation of Authority (approval process).
- Review and provide critical input to align investment outcomes with key metrics (EVA, Return On Net Assets (RONA)).
- Arrange and facilitate Capital Review Committee (CRC), meetings providing relevant information.
- Audit business compliance relating to process adherence, reporting, capitalisation.
- Lead the Group’s annual capital budgeting process & capital spend view for 3 to 5-year period.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT
- Manage finance related system rollouts and implementations.
- Key focus on new ERP and Staff Management Time and Attendance (T&A) system roll-out.
- Provide project management support - identify and influence team selection.
- Create the platform for accurate scoping, review and sign-off.
- Define the measured review progress against plan and timelines.
- Review and manage project cost.
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT – UGANDA OPERATIONS
- Oversee the financial team operations.
- Drive the daily / weekly and monthly finance review processes.
- Drive the annual financial close including coordination with the external auditors.
- Review existing banking and debt facilities, recommend and support business growth.
- Drive the annual budget process.
EXTERNAL STAKEHOLDERS & OTHER
- Annual audit requirements – support various business units with key audit requests.
- Facilitate resolving audit queries.
- Support audit close out.
- Support CFO as per changing business requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- BCom Honours in Finance, Accounting, or related field at NQF Level 8, plus professional qualification: CA(SA), CIMA, or equivalent.
- Financial articles – audit experience.
- 10 years’ post-qualification experience.
- Experience in the manufacturing industry is essential.
- Product costing, stock management, process improvement / LEAN or related experience essential.
- Proven track record in automating financial processes and enhancing reporting efficiency.
- Experience managing financial controls in large organisations.
- Familiarity with South African regulatory and tax requirements.
- Ability to adapt to dynamic business needs, including occasional extended hours.
- Ability to review complex reports and offer value added input with a view to develop staff.
- Previous exposure to EXCO level essential - ability to influence/guide EXCO decision making.
- Role includes requirement to travel to and engage with various sites.
