Role Purpose
The Financial Accountant plays a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with IFRS for SMEs, and effective internal controls. The position supports the integrity of financial systems, statutory reporting, and internal management reporting, with a focus on Sourcefin's growing portfolio of structured lending products, including invoice discounting and purchase order finance.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Prepare monthly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, and variance analysis.
- Ensure timely and accurate month-end close processes in Sage Intacct.
- Maintain general ledger integrity and oversee reconciliations for key accounts.
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards (IFRS for SMEs) and regulatory requirements.
- Assist with the preparation of annual financial statements and coordination of external audit.
Loan Book & Revenue Accounting
- Monitor and reconcile interest income, fees, and provision calculations across the loan book.
- Oversee revenue recognition in line with Sourcefin's revenue policy for various funding products.
- Ensure accuracy in loan drawdowns, repayments, and interest accruals, supporting automation within Sage Intacct.
Cash Management & Treasury
- Manage bank reconciliations and daily cash reporting.
- Assist in the preparation of cash flow forecasts and liquidity tracking.
- Liaise with banking partners and support treasury operations as required.
Taxation & Statutory Submissions
- Prepare and submit VAT, PAYE, and other statutory returns accurately and on time.
- Support income tax calculations, provisional tax submissions, and liaise with external tax advisors where necessary.
Controls & Process Improvement
- Maintain and improve internal control frameworks across financial processes.
- Support the automation of key finance functions within Sage Intacct.
- Proactively identify opportunities to streamline workflows and reduce manual intervention.
Support & Collaboration
- Support the Financial Director and broader finance team in strategic projects and board reporting.
- Liaise with other departments, especially Credit, Legal, and Operations, to ensure accurate data capture and reporting.
- Mentor junior finance staff and support training initiatives.
Key Requirements
- BCom Accounting or equivalent; SAIPA/SAICA articles advantageous.
- 2-4 years post-articles experience, preferably in financial services or lending.
- Proficient in Sage Intacct (or similar ERP system), Excel, and financial reporting tools.
- Strong understanding of IFRS for SMEs, tax compliance, and internal controls.
- High attention to detail, integrity, and accountability.
