Farm Manager – Langkloof (Joubertina, Eastern Cape)

My client, a leading South African producer and distributor of superior fruit and vegetables, is seeking to employ a dedicated Farm Manager, with a Degree in Agriculture or related field, in the unique Langkloof region. This is the ideal opportunity for a candidate who understands and speaks the “language of the Langkloof” and has a true passion for the area. The Langkloof Valley itself is mostly small towns and farming settlements (Joubertina, Kareedouw, Louterwater, Krakeelrivier, Avontuur).

Purpose of the Role

To oversee all farming operations for high-quality pear and apple production in the Langkloof, ensuring sustainable practices and exceptional fruit standards while leading and developing a dedicated farm team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, implement and manage all orchard operations from cultivation to harvest
  • Farming Scope: Management of 80–100 ha pear and apple orchards
  • Maintain optimal crop quality, yield, and sustainable farming practices
  • Lead, motivate and manage farm workers, ensuring a safe and productive environment
  • Oversee budgets, resources and maintenance of equipment and infrastructure
  • Monitor irrigation, soil health and pest management programmes
  • Coordinate with packing, marketing and distribution teams to meet export and local market demands
  • Uphold high standards of quality, productivity and environmental responsibility
Criteria
  • Degree in Agriculture or related field
  • Proven experience managing large-scale fresh produce farm
  • Strong technical knowledge of orchard management, irrigation and crop protection
  • Excellent people-management and communication skills
  • Hands-on, detail-oriented leader with strong problem-solving ability
  • High level of computer literacy
  • Fluent in Afrikaans and proficient in English
  • Valid drivers’ licence
  • Passion for the Langkloof region and commitment to sustainable farming
