Description
Our client in the engineering/manufacturing industry is looking to employ a Fabrication Assembly Shop Supervisor to join their skilled production team based in Benoni, Gauteng.
Requirements
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in a fabrication facility with a proven track record.
- Strong technical understanding and mechanical aptitude.
- Supervisory qualification (required).
- Trade Test or Technical Diploma (advantageous).
- Extensive experience in steel fabrication; stainless steel experience is a strong advantage.
- Ability to read and interpret CAD drawings (mandatory).
- Knowledge of the OHS Act.
- Experience across steel/stainless steel fabrication, including:
- Profile forming
- Plate rolling
- TIG & MIG welding
- Plasma cutting
- Overhead crane operation
- Forklift operation
- Ability to manage multiple complex tasks in a high-output environment.
- Strong people-management and communication skills.
- Physically fit and able to work on the fabrication floor (100% hands‑on role).
Responsibilities
- Meet daily with the Production Manager to receive job packs and schedules.
- Oversee the full fabrication schedule from preparation to final assembly.
- Issue job files, drawings, and work instructions to artisans.
- Supervise artisans across all relevant departments to ensure adherence to instructions and standards.
- Conduct daily toolbox talks.
- Ensure compliance with DSTI’s and OHS requirements.
- Collaborate with internal departments to optimize workflow and resolve issues.
- Coordinate assembly activities and welding operations across the facility.
- Ensure all boiler‑making and welding activities meet required standards.
- Oversee NDT processes within the assembly area.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workshop environment.
- Ensure tools and equipment are maintained to standard.
- Provide daily and weekly progress reports to the Production Manager.
- Maintain job files, work instructions, and NDT documentation.
- Learn and support the operation of automated vertical tank‑building machinery.
