External Sales Engineer Valve Industry

About the Client

Our client is a market-leading manufacturer and distributor of industrial valves headquartered in Boksburg. They supply high-quality flow-control solutions to oil & gas, water & wastewater, mining, and power generation customers. With robust engineering support and responsive after-sales service, theyre known for reliability, technical excellence, and long-term partnerships.

Role Overview

As an External Sales Engineer, youll combine technical expertise with consultative selling to grow revenue across a defined territory. Youll build relationships at all levelsengineering, maintenance, projects, and procurementtranslating complex requirements into clearly scoped, commercially sound solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own and grow a territory : prospect, qualify, develop, and close opportunities to meet quarterly and annual targets.
  • Conduct on-site customer visits for audits, product demos, sizing / selection, and technical guidance.
  • Prepare proposals, quotations, and contract documentation aligned to customer specs and standards.
  • Work cross-functionally with engineering, production, logistics, and after-sales to ensure on-time, in-spec project delivery.
  • Track market activitycompetitors, pricing, tenders, and customer feedbackand feed insights into product and go-to-market plans.
  • Maintain accurate pipeline, activity, and forecast data in the CRM; produce timely sales reports and account plans.
Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical , Industrial , or related engineering field.
  • 35 years field-based technical sales experience with valves, piping, or fluid-control products.
  • Solid understanding of valve types (e.g., gate, globe, ball, butterfly, control), materials, trims, and typical process applications.
  • Proven track record of meeting / exceeding sales targets and managing a full sales cycle.
  • Valid SA drivers licence and willingness to travel
  • Right to work in South Africa and fluent professional English; additional South African languages advantageous.
