Job Description

The equipment technician works within the Pig and Poultry team and will provide assistance to clients and Key Account Managers to ensure all equipment used for the application and administration of vaccines will at all times be functional.

The individual has adequate knowledge and experience in electrical and mechanical engineering in order to repair/service devices that are used daily within hatcheries or on farm.

Key Responsibilities:
General Tasks:
  • Strictly adhere to all biosecurity measures relevant to the pig and poultry sectors.

  • Monitor and report on the performance of all equipment, ensuring their wellbeing.

  • Manage the inventory of service and maintenance kits, ensuring stock levels are adequate.

  • Ensure seamless service operations while being prepared for standard breakdown procedures.

  • Assist with the conversion of equipment to inline spray systems.

  • Maintain thorough communication with Key Account Managers (KAM) regarding client needs and equipment status.

Installation of New Equipment and Routine Maintenance:
  • Collaborate with KAM to install new equipment effectively.

  • Plan installations, including necessary materials and consumables.

  • Oversee the complete installation process, culminating in the first vaccination on-site.

  • Provide training on equipment installation to vaccination teams.

  • Conduct follow-up training as required.

  • Compile and distribute service and breakdown reports within 48 hours.

Maintenance of All Equipment:
  • Maintain equipment according to standard operating procedures (SOPs).

  • Check spare parts with clients and provide feedback to KAM regarding needs.

Knowledge and Experience Required:
  • Experience in equipment service within the poultry industry is a significant advantage.

  • Technical background equivalent to N3.

  • Experience in poultry production and/or the poultry industry is a plus.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Fluent in English and Afrikaans.

  • Strong negotiation skills and organizational capabilities.

  • Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office and Internet skills.
