About the Company
Envusa Energy is a licensed energy trader jointly owned by EDF Power Solutions and Anglo American. Envusa is, focused on delivering innovative and industry leading renewable energy solutions to private offtakers across Southern Africa and has a stated aim of developing a 3 to 5GW Renewable Energy generation portfolio by 2030. Construction of the first 520MW of wind and solar energy is at an advanced stage and will start delivering electricity to offtakers in Q1 2026.
The Role
The purpose of the Head of Commercial and Sales is to lead the Envusa Commercial and Sales function in driving the development of the Envusa Energy customer strategy and acquisition and providing ongoing commercial support and service.
This role has a strategic impact by actively promoting and representing Envusa across external platforms, while scaling and developing the commercial and sales function and the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Demonstrate Leadership & provide strategic input – Serve as a key member of the management team, driving Envusa Energy's value creation and business performance. Develop and implement the Envusa Commercial and Sales strategy and execution plan, with management and board support, and secure offtakers for the Envusa pipeline. Act as the key interface to the customers and stakeholders on all Commercial and Sales topics. Recommend financial and commercial solutions for stakeholders. Include considerations of the shareholders in all decision making within the function (e.g. customer and contracting choices). Is responsible for the development and maintenance of effective customer and supplier relationships, contract governance and controls.
- Build the Commercial and Sales Strategy and Function – Fully articulate the business model for stakeholders and customers. Develop the commercial and sales function and the teams to create a purpose-led, high-performing culture that is aligned with the Envusa values, is inclusive and promotes diversity. Ensure the growth and performance of the Commercial and Sales disciplines. Design and implement an effective and value driven Commercial and Sales strategy including a stakeholder engagement plan, taking into consideration changing market dynamics, identifying opportunities and managing risks. Drive the development and implementation of innovative contracting and product offers in line with risk managed processes, standards and systems in alignment, that support shareholders guidelines and standards. Stay abreast and monitor the regulatory environment (SAWEM, WEPS,.) for Envusa Energy and evaluate impact on the business. Build and maintain strong relationships with NERSA, ESKOM and other key regulatory authorities. Incorporate customer's requirements in the selection process of empowerment partners and community partners.
- Drive Envusa Commercial and Sales planning and performance – Manage third party customer engagement and development in line with Envusa Resource Plan, including development of alternative contracting strategies in line with optimizing the portfolio. Workstream owner for negotiations of agreements (Purchase Power Agreements, Energy Offtake Agreements) for projects with customers, with support and direction from Sponsors. Management of commercial agreements (PPA, EOA) as Envusa representative during construction and operation phases. Establish the Envusa “Trading Desk” for SAWEM integration. Manage the energy trading obligations under the offtake contracts.
- Provide support to Envusa planning, project and social activities – Support Envusa in driving the long-term development of business and in evaluating near term Commercial opportunities. Provide inputs to Business Planning, contributing to ensure consistency between the strategy and commercial budget. Develop commercial valuation and contracting analysis for the assessment of projects, providing input to Projects on offtake / commercial matters. Provide input to project development in land lease / acquisition as required. Ensure effective management of functional risks across the Envusa business. Communicates Envusa's goals to shareholders, stakeholders and customers.
- Contribute to Safety, Health & Environment – Demonstrate behaviour in line with health, safety and environmental standards and with the Envusa's and shareholder values and principles. Adhere to the health, safety and environmental expectations and monitor behaviour so that it meets the required standards. Participate in relevant safety audits, inspections and observations, and address issues as part of demonstrating safety leadership.
Requirements
- Graduate degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Management, or related field (essential)
- Relevant postgraduate qualification, ideally an MBA (preferred)
- 15+ years' professional experience in Commercial and Sales functions, with at least 10 years in senior leadership roles
- Strong background in capital-intensive industries (energy, mining, or extractives), with multi-site and multi-country operations
- Proven track record in commercial and sales leadership, securing offtake contracts and delivering revenue growth
- Deep experience in project finance and structured finance for infrastructure projects
- Established relationships with Southern African commercial banks, lenders, and regulators
- Strong knowledge of commercial offtake agreements in the energy industry (PPAs, EOAs, trading obligations)
- Excellent command of spoken and written English (French or other South African languages desirable)
