Minimum requirements
- Minimum BSc Honours or MSc degree in Environmental Science, Microbiology, Geology, Geohydrology, Chemical Sciences, or a related field
- Relevant research or field experience will be advantageous
- Matric
- A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel on national roads while transporting team members
- Flexibility to work on a diverse portfolio of projects across various locations
- General knowledge of biology, preferably microbiology, and/or chemical hydrology, geohydrology, or geology
- Understanding of natural sciences (chemistry, physics, biology, and mathematics) as applied to field observations
- Working knowledge of laboratory practices, analytical methods, and quality control processes
- Ability to identify appropriate analyses to support environmental datasets

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Technical and Scientific Work
- Review and interpret current literature and research relating to environmental remediation methods, technologies, and emerging issues
- Plan and design experiments, field activities, and remediation processes in consultation with subcontractors and project partners
- Conduct fieldwork and technical site investigations; gather, analyse, and interpret environmental data
- Implement and work with both in-situ and ex-situ remediation technologies for soil and water
- Perform basic laboratory work, including reconstituting or activating material according to supplied protocols, and identifying appropriate analyses required to complete datasets
- Conduct quality control and verification of research data and external laboratory analyses
- Manage and maintain accurate records, including calculations, datasets, field notes, and contact lists related to each project
- Prepare Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) where required and liaise with suppliers regarding protocols
- Read, catalogue, and store relevant scientific literature and project documents
Project and Stakeholder Management
- Work closely and productively with subcontractors to ensure work scopes, timelines, and deliverables are met
- Lead the management of research projects and fieldwork activities, including progress tracking, reporting, and updating line managers on deliverables and schedules
- Apply basic financial management principles to project budgets and resource planning.
- Communicate clearly and professionally via phone, email, meetings, and presentations with clients, partners, stakeholders, and external collaborators
- Engage with public stakeholders to solicit ideas and funding streams where applicable
