We are recruiting for :

Mechanical Engineering Programme Lead

The Programme Lead serves as the academic and operational head of the programme, ensuring high-quality delivery, academic integrity, and an excellent student experience.

The role includes coordinating lecturers, supporting programme development, and maintaining alignment with institutional and industry standards.

As an extension of the Lecturer role, the Programme Lead retains teaching responsibilities and is expected to provide quality instruction, assessment, and academic support.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong academic leadership, technical expertise, and a commitment to continuous improvement in teaching and learning.

Position Duties & Responsibilities

The workload allocation model will determine sufficient time for all responsibilities associated with this role.

Design, develop, and deliver high-quality learning experiences aligned to programme outcomes.

Develop and maintain learning materials, assessments, and feedback processes.

Ensure teaching practices align with institutional Teaching & Learning Policy and indicators of good practice.

Identify at-risk students and implement proactive intervention strategies to support success.

Build communities of learning and practice within the programme.

Conduct assessments, moderation, and invigilation in line with institutional policies.

Provide timely, constructive feedback to students.

Engage in discipline-relevant research, scholarship, or professional activity.

Contribute to ongoing curriculum innovation and resource improvement.

Maintain strong working relationships within the department and across functional units.

Contribute to Programme and Content Development Initiatives

Ensure the programme and its modules are well-structured, up-to-date, and aligned with academic, regulatory, and accreditation standards.

Oversee all curriculum documentation, alignment, version control, updates, and continuous improvement, ensuring the programme remains relevant and academically coherent.

Monitor academic health indicators (including student performance, retention, throughput, and progression) identify at-risk students, and support early intervention strategies.

Review student feedback and surveys, prepare appropriate action items, and engage parents, guardians, or sponsors where necessary to resolve academic concerns.

Manage the development, setting, and moderation of assessments to ensure quality, fairness, consistency, and compliance across delivery modes.

Oversee internal and external moderation processes (with the HoS remaining custodian of moderation), ensure all exam papers, assessments, memos, and moderation packs are quality-assured and submitted on time, and compile analysis of departmental assessment outcomes with improvement plans.

Ensure marks, feedback, and assessment documents are accurately uploaded onto the relevant academic platforms (including AMI, Gradebook, SP).

Coordinate annual academic and assessment planning, maintain all programme and subject-related administration (including programme outlines, timetables, content maps, assessment records, and submission schedules), and support programme-related logistics such as open days, exhibitions, events, and academic activities.

Evaluate programme resources (staffing, financial, infrastructure) and submit recommendations for improvement.

Provide academic leadership by mentoring full-time and part-time lecturers through class visits, constructive feedback, teaching guidance, goal setting, and ongoing professional development.

Offer curriculum delivery guidance, support assessment literacy, ensure consistent academic standards, and contribute input toward lecturer performance reviews alongside the HoS.

Identify exemplary student work and lecturer contributions for publication, recognition, or exhibition.

Oversee all practical components of the programme, ensuring that practical sessions, labs, studios, or workshops are effectively planned, resourced, scheduled, and aligned to curriculum outcomes.

Ensure all practical facilities, tools, equipment, and consumables are available, safe, functional, and maintained to industry standards.

Coordinate with relevant supporting departments on the servicing, upkeep, and replacement of equipment, and maintain accurate asset and inventory records in line with compliance requirements.

Prepare accurate and timely procurement requests for materials, equipment, software, and consumables, and ensure seamless integration of practical learning with theoretical components.

Participate in internal and external audits and regulatory site visits (including but not limited to CHE, HEQC, QCTO, ECSA, DHET), ensure programme readiness for accreditation reviews, maintain required evidence and documentation, and support the HoS with regulatory reporting.

Prepare programme-level reports and recommendations for Academic Board, Exam Board, Programme Reviews, and other governance structures.

Identify risks affecting programme quality or delivery, and propose appropriate mitigation strategies.

Support Work-Integrated Learning processes, industry partnerships, guest lectures, project opportunities, and other stakeholder engagements relevant to the discipline to strengthen the academic and practical experience of students.

Application Requirements

Masters in the relevant field of Engineering as a minimum requirement.

Registered member at ECSA is highly advantage, although we will support annual membership fees as part of our Staff Development support.

At least 5+ years' experience in teaching and learning within the Higher Education environment.

Ability to teach, develop content, and conduct assessments effectively.

Familiarity with industry standards, safety protocols, and professional engineering practices.
