DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a talented Apprentice - Engine Workshop Technician to join our team specializing in Service for our Distribution Business Segment in Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
  • Support Workshop Operations: By assisting with general workshop activities, you’ll help ensure smooth and efficient operations.
  • Maintain Cleanliness and Order: Your efforts in cleaning, inspecting, and disassembling will contribute to a safe and organized work environment.
  • Master Repair Techniques: Learning Standard Repair Times (SRTs) and following procedures will enable you to perform basic repairs and maintenance effectively.
  • Accurate Documentation: Assisting with documentation, such as work completed forms and time sheets, will ensure accurate record-keeping and data management.
  • Skill Development: Completing training aligned with skill and business requirements will enhance your capabilities and value to the team.
  • Tool and Equipment Care: Maintaining cleanliness and proper operation of tools will prolong their lifespan and ensure they are always ready for use.
  • Health and Safety Compliance: Adhering to Health, Safety & Environmental policies and procedures will help maintain a safe workplace and prevent incidents.
  • Proactive Reporting: Reporting any issues or incidents to your supervisor will contribute to continuous improvement and problem-solving within the workshop.
RESPONSIBILITIES

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Proficiency in Product Repair and Maintenance: Efficiently repair and maintain mechanical/electrical products, disassemble and assemble engines or power generators, and inspect and replace parts to minimize customer costs.
  • Strong Mechanical Knowledge: Demonstrate knowledge of Cummins and industry standards, comply with safe work procedures, and apply mechanical principles to diagnose and repair products safely and efficiently.
  • Effective Diagnostics Application: Translate customer complaints into troubleshooting plans, use specialized equipment and software to isolate and repair issues, validate repairs, and document results for payment and historical tracking.
  • Valid Driver’s License: Ensure you have a valid motor vehicle driver’s license to meet the job requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education/ Experience:

  • A National Senior Certificate (NSC) from the South African governmental school system, known as the current matriculation (matric) certificate with grade 12 as the matriculation grade, plus
  • an N3 (Nated certificate) Engineering studies certificate with subjects passed in
  • Mathematics, Engineering Science, Engineering Drawing, Diesel Trade Theory/ Motor Trade Theory/ Mechanotechnology.
  • an N4 (Nated certificate) Engineering studies certificate with subjects passed in
  • Mathematics, Engineering Science, Mechanical Draughting and Mechanotechnics
  • an N6 (Nated certificate) Mechanical Engineering certificate with 4 subjects passed in either of the following
  • Mathematics, Mechanotechnics, Mechanical Drawing and Design, Power Machines, Fluid Mechanics, Physics, Strength of Materials, Supervisory Management.

OR

  • A National Senior Certificate (NSC) from the South African governmental school system, known as the current matriculation (matric) certificate with grade 12 as the matriculation grade, plus an NCV Level 4, qualification offered at TVET colleges, which includes subjects passed in Engineering Process, Professional Engineering Practice, Applied Engineering Technology, Automotive Repair & Maintenance, Mathematics, English First Language and Life Skills and Computer Literacy

  • An NCV Level 4, a qualification offered at TVET colleges, which includes subjects passed in Engineering Process, Professional Engineering Practice, Applied Engineering Technology, Automotive Repair & Maintenance, Mathematics, English First Language and Life Skills and Computer Literac
