Job Summary
We are seeking a hands-on Electrical Site Manager to oversee the electrical construction activities on utility-scale wind and solar PV projects. The role will be site-based and report directly to the Senior Construction Manager, ensuring that all electrical installations, including reticulation, substations, cabling, inverters, and grid connections, are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all electrical site construction activities, including low, medium and high-voltage cabling, switchgear, transformers, inverters, and substation installations.
- Plan and coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure electrical works are executed according to project specifications and design drawings.
- Ensure all electrical works comply with SANS, IEC and project-specific standards and safety regulations.
- Monitor electrical construction progress and report on schedule, cost, and quality metrics to the Senior Construction Manager.
- Conduct site inspections and quality checks on electrical installations; ensure proper documentation and records are maintained.
- Support commissioning and testing activities, including grid integration tests and validation of electrical systems.
- Identify and resolve electrical construction issues, risks, or conflicts in collaboration with engineering, procurement, and construction teams.
- Maintain HSE compliance, promoting a safety-first culture for all electrical site personnel.
- Supervise and mentor electrical site staff, including engineers, foremen, and technicians.
- Assist in planning labour, equipment, and material requirements for electrical construction works.
- Participate in site meetings, coordination sessions, and client inspections.
Required Experience & Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or National Diploma in Electrical Engineering/Construction.
- Minimum 7 years of electrical construction experience, including at least 3 years on utility-scale renewable energy projects (wind or solar PV).
- Proven experience managing low, medium and high-voltage electrical installations, substations, and grid connections.
- Strong understanding of electrical construction methods, standards, and site safety procedures.
- Ability to interpret electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, schematics, and technical specifications.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Experience managing subcontractors and multi-disciplinary site teams.
Preferred Attributes
- Experience with EPC contracts and grid-connected renewable energy projects.
- Familiarity with commissioning and testing of renewable energy electrical systems.
- Working knowledge of project management and construction reporting tools.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under challenging site conditions.
