Job Title: Family Physician / General Practitioner (GP) / Doctor

Vacancy Type: Full-time
Location: Oyen, Alberta, Canada
Salary: Market-related (aligned with Canadian medical remuneration guidelines)

Relocation & Licensing Timeline

To prevent unnecessary delays, candidates are strongly encouraged to begin the Canadian Permanent Residency (PR) process as early as possible — ideally even if the employment offer and/or examination stages are still being finalised.

Early initiation of PR ensures smoother relocation once provisional registration is approved, as processing timelines are extensive.

Visa-based entry is not advised due to regulatory limitations and extended processing timelines.
The Permanent Residency (PR) pathway is strongly recommended for long-term practice stability.

Estimated relocation timeframe: 12–24 months

The relocation path typically includes:

  1. Initiation of PR and CPSA licensing applications
  2. Completion of two qualifying medical examinations in South Africa
  3. Optional fully supported site visit to Oyen (subject to approval)
  4. Relocation under provisional registration, allowing practice in Canada while final licensing assessments are completed
Immigration & Licensing Support

The recruitment team and emigration/ immigration specialists will assist with:

  • Guidance on Canadian PR initiation and regulatory requirements
  • Coordination during the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) licensing pathway
  • Scheduling and planning around qualifying exams
  • Support with relocation logistics and family integration planning
Minimum Requirements
  • Eligibility for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA)
  • Eligible for Provisional Register – Conditional Practice (Family Medicine / GP)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – required
  • ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support) – required
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – desired
  • MOREOB / ALARM or equivalent obstetrical emergency training – desired
  • Recent (within 2 years) experience or training in rural and/or emergency medicine advantageous
  • Willingness to relocate to Oyen and actively engage in the local community and healthcare system
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide afull scope of rural family medicine, including clinic-based and hospital-based care
  • Maintain admitting privileges and oversee inpatient care
  • Deliver minimum 40 clinical hours per week
  • Participate in emergency and on-call rotations
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary medical teams
  • Engage in quality improvement and professional development initiatives
  • Support community healthcare programmes and outreach services
  • Uphold high standards of clinical ethics and patient care
