Divisional Cybersecurity Officer – Retail / Manufacturing Sectors

A leading, JSE‑listed diversified group with operations spanning the services, distribution, retail, manufacturing, and industrial sectors is seeking a Divisional Cybersecurity Officer.

With over 20 independently operated business units – each with unique IT environments – this role offers a rare opportunity to lead a security strategy that shapes the resilience of a complex, high‑impact organisation. Based in Sandton, this role offers both strategic leadership and hands‑on engagement across a multi‑entity, national landscape.

Responsibilities
  • Design and implement a cybersecurity strategy tailored to the specific risk profiles of each business unit, aligned with group‑level frameworks and standards.
  • Conduct detailed maturity assessments and develop entity‑specific roadmaps to improve cyber risk postures.
  • Collaborate with IT leaders to ensure secure architecture, operations, and incident response readiness across a wide range of environments.
  • Lead the rollout of security controls, technologies, and a divisional monitoring and alerting function.
  • Drive cybersecurity awareness, education, and skills development across IT teams.
  • Assess and address system vulnerabilities, privileged access practices, and disaster recovery preparedness.
  • Monitor and report on security findings using automated audit tools, ensuring management accountability and timely remediation.
  • Work cross‑functionally with senior leadership and support the rollout of strategic cybersecurity initiatives across the group.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years’ experience in a senior cybersecurity or information security role, ideally in a decentralised or multi‑entity environment.
  • Extensive experience in vulnerability and patch management, secure configuration, and risk‑based security strategy development.
  • Strong understanding of ISO / IEC, NIST frameworks, and incident response protocols.
  • Proven ability to influence and execute cybersecurity initiatives across diverse business environments.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related discipline.
  • Certification required in at least one of the following: CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional), CISSP‑ISSMP (Information Systems Security Management Professional), CISM (Certified Information Security Manager), CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker). CEH certification is an added advantage.
