A position has become available for a Mine Planner who will be working as a consultant to the Mining Industry, involved in underground and/or open cast/open pit mining studies. The Mine Planner will be based in Greenstone Hill (Johannesburg), and will partake in consulting, interfacing with clients and providing technical input into the delivery of mining engineering projects throughout Africa, Europe and Middle East.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform underground and/or open pit mining studies, including mine designs, schedules, operating and capital cost estimates as well as trade‑off or optimisation studies
  • Provide technical support to project teams working on mining related projects.
  • Improve the quality of technical solutions
  • Administration, including invoicing, report writing, general correspondence to client and contractors
  • Assist with the implementation of site‑specific codes of practice, safety standards and site procedures
  • Assist with presentation to management on alternative layouts, site‑specific decisions, engineering, project progress, cash flows and capital estimates and applications for expenditure.
  • Checking of engineering drawings, document control and ‘as‑built’ updates
  • Assist with proposals and tenders.
Requirements
  • Proficient in speaking/reading/writing English
  • Willingness and ability to travel as work requires, across Africa, Europe and Middle East region
  • 5 - 10 years mining experience
  • Blasting certificate
  • Literate in a mine planning software packages (i.e. Deswik, Studio 5D, Mine 2‑4D, Xpac, Surpac, Datamine, NPV Scheduler or Whittle)
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills
  • An ability to maintain and develop professional and technical competencies
  • Able to adjust to changing priorities and schedules
  • Ability to interface with people of different backgrounds, cultures and at every level of the organisation
  • Experience on multiple commodities would be advantageous
