Overview

A vacancy exists for a Deputy Hospital Manager, based at Life The Glynnwood, reporting to the Hospital Manager. This role forms part of the business’s sustainability strategy through ensuring continued development, opportunity to be involved in decision making and profit responsibility during the appointment, and retention of high calibre talent. The successful candidate will be responsible for meeting the needs of internal and external customers through the execution of the LHC and complementary strategic and operational objectives in growth, quality & people by leading, managing, and coordinating all complementary business units’ activities.

Critical Outputs

Incumbents will work in a large hospital reporting directly to the Hospital Manager with profit accountability and operational responsibility for the respective complementary/ancillary units by:

  • Ensuring effective quality systems management by
  • Implementing and improving quality standardized metrics
  • Ensuring compliance to clinical benchmarking initiatives in order to retain ISO certification
  • Identifying problems utilizing root cause analysis and implementing necessary remedial action

Ensuring effective hospital operations management by

  • Implementing and developing best operating practices and strategic business plans in order to optimize the functioning of hospital operations

Ensuring effective people management by

  • Actively sponsoring initiatives and demonstrate visible leadership to improve productivity and support change
  • Actively leading and managing hospital feedback meetings to achieve strategic objectives
  • Developing a resourcing plan to recruit talented staff in accordance with agreed time periods, considering transformation objectives
  • Providing direction and inspiring positive work behaviour
  • Developing and managing training plans for each department to facilitate talent development
  • Managing performance ratings for all staff through the performance improvement process
  • Ensuring all transactional processing is managed by the relevant department head to provide employee compensation and benefits
  • Ensuring productive working relationships with minimal IR issues
  • Ensuring all exit interviews are conducted to retain critical and talented professional staff

Ensuring effective relationship management with doctors by

  • Developing retention strategies and attracting doctors to maintain mutually beneficial relationships

Ensuring effective implementation of marketing strategy (including growth) by

  • Developing and understanding competitor strategies to effectively market the hospital
  • Positioning projects within local communities to ensure hospital visibility

Ensuring the achievement of hospital financial targets by

  • Preparing and monitoring annual budgets with management to implement corrective actions as required
  • Planning and delivering Capex projects on time and within the specified budget
  • Identifying, developing and marketing new business opportunities
  • Supporting activities to maximize revenue generation
  • Managing the cost of sales and overheads effectively to reduce cost

Ensuring governance and risk management by

  • Preparing annual risk assessments and progress reviews to achieve sound business ethics and risk management
Requirements
  • Minimum requirement qualification: open to any post-graduate degree in Commerce, Engineering, Health Sciences etc. or relevant business degree
  • Completion of the traditional Life Healthcare Hospital Manager Development Program will be advantageous
  • Proven leadership and general business management experience (including financial management and business planning processes) within a healthcare environment
  • Knowledge of the private healthcare industry, its challenges and role players including an understanding of the relevant legislation
  • Computer proficiency
  • Driver’s license and ability to travel nationally for assignment related operational requirements
