Job Summary

Houston Skilled Consultancy is seeking a dedicated and professional Deck Steward to join the onboard hospitality team of a premium passenger cruise ship. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing top-tier guest service, assisting with deck cleanliness, and ensuring safety protocols are observed across public deck areas. This role is critical in enhancing the cruise experience by maintaining high service standards, ensuring passenger well-being, and supporting shipboard operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Greet and assist passengers in public deck areas with courtesy and professionalism.

• Monitor and maintain cleanliness and hygiene of decks, outdoor furniture, pools, and sunbathing areas.

• Support daily set-up and arrangement of sunbeds, towels, and other amenities.

• Ensure all safety equipment in deck areas is in place and not obstructed.

• Conduct routine safety checks and report hazards or suspicious activities.

• Assist in emergency procedures, including evacuation drills and crowd control.

• Provide water, refreshments, and service items as needed during deck activities or events.

• Maintain open communication with the housekeeping, hospitality, and security teams.

• Respond promptly to passenger inquiries and provide helpful information about onboard services.

• Follow all maritime safety standards, hygiene protocols, and company policies.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent qualification.

• Basic knowledge of maritime safety procedures.

• Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

• Physical fitness and stamina to work long hours on foot and lift moderate loads.

• Ability to swim is essential for safety purposes.

• Polite, service-oriented, and professional demeanor at all times.

• Willingness to work in outdoor conditions and variable weather.

Experience

• Minimum 1 year of experience in a customer service or hospitality role; prior cruise ship or maritime experience is highly preferred.

• Familiarity with guest interaction and safety-related responsibilities in a marine or resort environment is an advantage.

Working Hours

• Rotational shifts: 8–10 hours per day (including weekends and holidays)

• Onboard ship contracts typically range from 6 to 9 months, with leave periods in between assignments.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Understanding of onboard health and sanitation standards.

• Awareness of crowd control techniques and safety protocols.

• Ability to multitask and remain calm in high-pressure or emergency situations.

• Team player with a strong sense of responsibility and punctuality.

• Basic command of English; additional language skills are a plus (especially Spanish, French, or German).
