Job summary

A leading recruitment firm is seeking a Data Privacy Counsel to manage data protection and privacy legal matters across multiple jurisdictions. This fully remote position requires a law degree and over 3 years of experience focusing on GDPR. The ideal candidate will serve as the named Data Protection Officer and will work closely with security and product teams to ensure compliance. Fluency in French is preferred, along with excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to legal matters.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of legal experience in data protection as an associate or in-house attorney.
  • Admitted to practice law in the UK, EU, or major African jurisdiction.
  • Excellent understanding of GDPR and familiarity with data protection compliance.

Our client is committed to making stablecoins accessible and understandable for everyone, providing their customers with secure and user-friendly platforms for their financial transactions.

Requirements

  • Law degree from accredited, top-tier University
  • Admitted to practice law in the UK, EU, and/or a major African jurisdiction (e.g. South Africa or Nigeria)
  • 3+ years of legal experience focusing on GDPR matters, either as an associate with a leading international or Pan-Africa law firm and/or as an in-house attorney
  • Excellent understanding of GDPR, with exposure to data protection and privacy laws and regulations across Africa
  • Familiarity with fulfilling the role of Data Protection Officer
  • Experience drafting user agreements and third-party contracts with respect to data
  • protection and privacy clauses
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Practical and commercial approach, with an entrepreneurial mindset
  • Fluency in French a plus (Arabic a further plus)

Responsibilities

  • Manage the company’s data protection and privacy legal matters in the EU, 20+ African jurisdictions, and future expansion jurisdictions (e.g. UK, MENA)
  • Serve as the Group’s named Data Protection Officer
  • Work closely with the Information Security team to bring the Group into compliance with
  • Work closely with the Product and Marketing teams to ensure GDPR and African jurisdiction data protection and privacy compliance
  • Advise relevant functions on all matters relating to data protection and privacy
  • “Own” data protection and privacy matrices
  • Acquire and maintain various data collector registrations
  • Advise on data protection and privacy provisions in various contracts

  • Reports to: Assistant General Counsel
  • Direct reports: None
  • Key stakeholders: Information Security team, Product team, Marketing team
