Job Overview:

Intercape, a leading passenger transport company in South Africa, is actively looking for skilled Code 14 drivers to join their team. The role involves driving coaches across all nine provinces of South Africa, and even crossing into neighboring countries like Botswana, Maputo, and Windhoek. Ideal candidates should have at least 5 years of long-distance driving experience, a strong work ethic, and great communication skills.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Pre-Trip Tasks:

• Inspection: Before hitting the road, you’ll need to complete a pre-trip inspection to ensure the vehicle is in perfect condition. This includes checking the coach, trailer, and all required paperwork like the operating license, insurance, diesel card, and others.
• Passenger Safety: Ensure all passengers are safely seated, with seatbelts fastened and air vents open. You’ll also check that the coach is clean and ready for the journey.
• Luggage Management: Loading luggage in a safe and secure manner is crucial. You will make sure all bags are properly labeled and follow Intercape’s guidelines for excess luggage.

During the Trip:

• Driving: You’ll drive the coach in a safe and professional manner, following all traffic laws and company policies. You’ll need to adhere to speed limits, stop at predetermined times, and make sure to take regular rest breaks. A K53 inspection is required after every driver change.
• Passenger Care: Provide top-notch customer service by assisting passengers, answering questions, and ensuring their comfort throughout the journey. Special care should be given to elderly passengers, those with disabilities, and minors.
• Cross-Border Routes: If you’re driving across borders, ensure all passengers have the necessary documents like passports and visas. You’ll assist them with any border-related requirements.
• You will manage the loading and unloading of luggage, ensuring that everything is safely stored and easily accessible. You’ll also oversee the handling of parcels during the trip, ensuring they are signed off properly and off-loaded at the right destination.

Breakdowns and Emergencies:

• If the coach breaks down, you’ll assess the situation, keep passengers informed, and update Central Operations about any delays or changes. You’ll work quickly to make necessary repairs or arrange for passenger transfers if needed.

Safety and Cleanliness:

• Safety: Always be aware of emergency equipment and ensure passengers follow safety protocols, such as wearing seatbelts.
• Cleanliness: The coach should remain tidy during the trip, and you’ll need to clean up after every stop. You’ll also need to inspect the emergency toilet and ensure it’s properly stocked and clean.

Who We Are Looking For:

Experience:

• Minimum of 3 years of long-distance driving experience on South African roads.
• Must be able to drive a Code 14 coach (EC license required).
• You need to have a valid PrDP (Public Drivers Permit) and be able to speak clearly in both English and your mother tongue.
• A clean driving record with no serious accidents.

Requirements:

• Grade 10 or equivalent education.
• Ages between 28 and 60 years are welcome to apply.
• Clear speech, reliable transport, and living within 45 km radius from the depot are also required.
