Job description
Role Purpose

To assume the role of Team Leader and contribute to the effective and efficient functioning of the Branch and business. The incumbent will be responsible for managing operational activities, processes, and systems to ensure the smooth running of Funds, while developing strong relationships with key stakeholders and leading a high-performing team.

Experience Required
  • Minimum 3–5 years industry-related experience
  • Minimum 3–5 years leadership and/or management experience
  • Essential: Experience in administering and managing Defined Contribution (DC) and Defined Benefit (DB) Funds
  • Essential: Proven experience in presenting to Boards of Trustees, including the ability to explain fund performance, administration matters, and regulatory requirements clearly and professionally
Fund Administration Oversight
  • Supervise and ensure accuracy of:
  • Monthly contribution reconciliations for Pension and Provident Funds
  • Maintenance of member data
  • Statutory reporting in terms of Section 13(a)
  • Processing and authorisation of claims, including bulk transfers
  • Direct and/or guaranteed housing loans (where applicable)
  • Monthly reporting for client meetings
  • Administration reports and member benefit statements
  • Recognition and allocation of transfer documents upon receipt
  • Changes to fund data, including rates, fees, and expenses
  • Financial year-end preparation
  • Reviewing and actioning risk reports (where applicable)
  • Ensure daily clearing of emails and member/client queries
  • Perform additional reasonable duties as required by operational needs
People Management & Leadership
  • Develop and maintain a high-performing team through performance management, coaching, and mentoring
  • Encourage ongoing knowledge sharing within the team
  • Participate in recruitment and selection, including compensation recommendations in consultation with HR
  • Initiate and manage disciplinary processes when required
  • Resolve team grievances and escalate where necessary
  • Monitor individual performance and manage poor performance via Performance Improvement Plans
  • Motivate, recognise, and reward team contribution
  • Conduct regular one-on-one sessions and team meetings
  • Complete bi-annual and quarterly performance reviews
  • Identify training and development needs and ensure appropriate interventions

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, legislative changes, and AFAS products and services
  • Successfully complete Branch and AFFS training assessments
  • Embed TCF principles by living AF values and embodying the SERVE principle
  • Effectively manage client expectations and mitigate risk
