Job summary

A national parks organization in Pretoria is seeking a highly motivated Chartered Accountant to provide world-class financial management services. The successful candidate must have a bachelor's degree in accounting, be a Chartered Accountant registered with SAICA, and have extensive experience in financial management at an executive level. Responsibilities include financial reporting, strategy development, and compliance with legislative frameworks. This is a fixed-term contract position with a closing date for applications on January 19, 2026.

Job description

SANParks requires the services of a highly motivated Chartered Accountant to provide world-class financial management services and perform statutory and other financial management and reporting functions within SANParks to ensure that the organisation complies with the requirements of the Public Finance Management Act and Treasury Regulations, Procurement regulations , Generally Recognised Accounting Practice and any other Act that has financial obligations on the organisation as a whole. This includes development and implementation of the funding and finance strategy and to mobilise for funding to ensure SANParks is sustainably funded in the medium to long term to fulfil its mandate.

This position is on a fixed-term contract of 5 years and will be based in Groenkloof, Pretoria, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer. The successful candidate must be in procession of a valid driver’s licence and must be willing to travel. Good interpersonal , problem solving, teamwork and networking skills are also essential.

The successful candidate will be subjected to a vetting process in accordance with requirement of Minimum Information Security Standards.

Requirements

  • Have a bachelor’s degree in accounting with Honours/Postgraduate qualification and must be a Chartered Accountant (SA), registered with South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) and should be a registered Chartered Accountant (CASA)
  • A master’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration (MBA) or a related discipline will be an advantage but not a prerequisite.
  • Should have 10 to 12 years of executive management experience in a financial environment with at least 5 years at higher/executive management level.
  • Sound knowledge of relevant Legislative framework and Corporate Governance (PFMA); Application Accounting Standards.
  • Sound knowledge of Supply Chain Processes and Legislation (BBBEE, PPPFA).
  • Knowledge of financial management with accounting skills.
  • Ability to strategize and solve problems.
  • Ability to manage internal and external audits.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and people management skills
  • An analytical mind, comfortable with numbers
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills

Qualifications and Experience which will provide an added advantage:

  • Knowledge of macro economy.
  • Knowledge of conservation & tourism industry.
  • Knowledge of project management.
  • Knowledge of human resources management.
  • Knowledge of IT computer literacy.
Responsibilities
  • Reporting to the CEO and the Board of SANParks as the CFO in terms of the Public Finance Management Act.
  • Develop and/or implementing the Financial Management and sustainability strategies.
  • Executing and managing financial controls and reporting including compilation of the Annual Financial Statements
  • Develop, implement and monitor the finance division business plan,
  • Ensure business efficiency and optimise commercial opportunities.
  • Ensure organisational compliance to applicable legislation, governance and associated risk.
  • Provide leadership, development and management of the finance team.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders for mutual benefit.
  • Oversee and ensure good financial management function for the organisation.
  • Oversee the development, implementation and maintenance of the supply chain processes for the organisation.
  • Play a pivotal role in the functioning of the Audit and Risk Committee of SANParks Board including internal and external audit functions.
  • Provide leadership on Budget Planning and Revenue Management.
  • Oversee the financial resource mobilisation for the organisation.
  • Strategic Management and oversight on leases, insurance, retirement funds, assets and payroll administration and expenditure.
