This position, based in De Waterkant / CPT CBD will work closely with directors and associates, gaining hands-on experience in all aspects of family law litigation and advisory work, with the objective of qualifying as an admitted legal practitioner.

Requirements:
- Completed LLB degree
- Registrable as a Candidate Legal Practitioner with the Legal Practice Council
- Valid driver’s license and own vehicle
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Afrikaans will be an advantage
- Sound computer literacy (MS Word, Outlook, Excel)
- High attention to detail and strong organisational skills
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple matters
- Professional, proactive and willing to learn
- Genuine interest in family law and litigation
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth research on legislation, case law and legal principles relevant to all family law matters
- Draft pleadings, affidavits, notices, settlement agreements, parenting plans and correspondence
- Assist with drafting heads of argument and court-ready documents
- Assist in High Court and Magistrates’ Court litigation
- Prepare trial bundles, chronologies, and court files
- Attend consultations with counsel and assist in briefing
- Attend client consultations, take instructions and assist with managing client expectations in sensitive and often high-conflict matters
- Maintain professional, empathetic and ethical client communication
- Attend court proceedings regularly
- Appear in the Magistrates’ Court, Regional Court and other lower courts once entitled to a right of appearance
- Manage and maintain case files and diaries
- Ensure compliance with court rules, filing deadlines and internal procedures
- Communicate with correspondents, sheriffs, court officials and counsel
- Complete compulsory Practical Vocational Training (PVT) / Practical Legal Training (PLT) and comply with all Legal Practice Council requirements
