We are starting our recruitment process early for the Business Development Manager (Technical Sales) role, which is set to commence in 2026, to ensure we build a strong candidate pool.
This role focuses on identifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities within technical product markets.
The Business Development Manager will drive strategic growth, build strong industry relationships, and expand the company’s footprint through targeted sales initiatives.
Responsibilities:
Business Growth & Strategy
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities in technical product markets.
- Develop and implement long‑term growth strategies aligned with business objectives.
- Build a strong sales pipeline through proactive prospecting, networking, and industry research.
- Analyse market trends, competitor activities, and emerging technologies to identify growth gaps.
- Recommend strategic direction for expanding into new sectors or regions.
Client Acquisition & Relationship Management
- Source, engage, and convert new clients through solution‑driven technical sales approaches.
- Conduct needs analysis to understand client challenges and propose tailored technical solutions.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key decision‑makers and industry stakeholders.
- Conduct client site visits, presentations, and technical demonstrations.
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts aligned with company guidelines.
Technical Product Knowledge & Consultation
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of all technical product offerings, features, and applications.
- Collaborate with technical teams to ensure accurate understanding of product capabilities.
- Present technical value propositions in a clear and compelling way to clients.
- Support product positioning and product development insights based on client feedback.
Sales Operations & Pipeline Management
- Develop and manage a structured business development pipeline from lead‑generation to deal closure.
- Ensure all proposals, quotes, and agreements are accurate and delivered timeously.
- Track progress using CRM systems and ensure records remain up to date.
- Prepare structured reports for the business owner detailing opportunities, pipeline status, conversion ratios, and revenue forecasts.
Marketing & Industry Engagement
- Collaborate with marketing to support campaigns, technical content, and product awareness strategies.
- Represent the company at trade shows, industry events, client demonstrations, and networking opportunities.
- Identify potential partnership opportunities or industry collaborations to expand business reach.
Internal Collaboration & Team Alignment
- Work closely with the sales team to hand over new clients and ensure smooth onboarding.
- Provide insights on market needs to support product development or technical enhancements.
- Contribute to internal planning discussions and quarterly strategy reviews.
Qualifications
- Grade 12 / Matric
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in Technical Sales
- Strong understanding of technical products and ability to explain solutions to clients
- Proven sales track record
- Experience managing or supporting a sales team (advantageous)
- Computer literate (Emails, Word, Excel; CRM beneficial)
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship‑building skills
- Valid South African Driver’s License
- Fluent in English (Afrikaans or an African language advantageous)
