Job summary

A leading automotive dealership is seeking an experienced Bookkeeper to manage financial records, processing debtors and creditors. Ideal candidates will have 3-5 years of experience within a dealership environment, with solid knowledge of accounting principles and proficiency in relevant accounting systems. This role requires strong communication and problem-solving skills, ensuring compliance with financial regulations.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping principles.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of bookkeeping experience, preferably within the automotive dealership industry.
  • Experience with debtors, creditors, and reconciliations essential.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for the dealership.
  • Process debtors and creditors: invoicing, reconciliations, collections, and payments.
  • Prepare and capture journal entries and ensure correct allocation of accounts.

Job description
Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for the dealership.
  • Process debtors and creditors: invoicing, reconciliations, collections, and payments.
  • Handle bank reconciliations, cashbook processing, and petty cash management.
  • Prepare and capture journal entries and ensure correct allocation of accounts.
  • Reconcile vehicle stock, parts inventory, and workshop transactions to ensure accuracy.
  • Assist with VAT, PAYE, and statutory returns.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports.
  • Support auditors with required financial documentation during year-end audits.
  • Monitor expense control and highlight variances to management.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, internal controls, and automotive industry regulations.
Key Competencies & Skills
  • Strong knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping principles.
  • Experience in debtors, creditors, reconciliations, and cash flow management.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel (advanced formulas, Pivot Tables, reporting).
  • Experience with dealership accounting systems (e.g., Automate, Evolve, Kerridge, or Pinnacle)
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to liaise with multiple departments (sales, parts, service).
  • Confidentiality, integrity, and professionalism in handling financial data.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Grade 12 / Matric with accounting as a subject (essential).
  • A relevant financial/accounting qualification (Diploma or Certificate) advantageous.
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ bookkeeping experience, preferably within the automotive dealership industry.
  • Proven experience with debtors, creditors, and reconciliations essential.
  • Knowledge of VAT and statutory compliance requirements.
