Associate Attorney | Asia Practice (Mandarin Speaking)

An Associate role has become available to join the Asia Practice Group at the Johannesburg offices of ENS.

Overview

The key objective of the role is to support the strengthening of relationships with the firm's existing and prospective clients and support the development of new business opportunities from strategic clients, with an emphasis on companies coming from Asia and China. The successful candidate will be expected to assume responsibility for working closely with clients, different business units in the firm, as well as managing elements of various transactions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Asian Practice Group to secure new business from Asian clients, with primary focus on M&A, project finance, and natural resources sectors.
  • Work with different teams and ENS offices to understand client needs and promote key relevant expertise.
  • Coordinate internal resources and third parties for flawless execution of mandates.
  • Ensure all mandates are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget.
  • Assist in defining scope of work, involving all relevant teams within the firm.
  • Advise on mergers and acquisitions and other commercial transactions.
  • Manage changes to the scope of work of a mandate.
  • Manage relationships with clients and all stakeholders.
  • Attend to smaller and larger matters independently.
Key Requirements
  • The successful candidate should be an admitted attorney to practise in South Africa with a strong academic record and solid experience in the corporate commercial department of a law firm.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) in Mandarin.
  • Minimum two years PQE in a corporate commercial department.
  • Thorough knowledge of the law.
  • Experience in commercial transactions and project management.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to self-regulate.
  • Goal-oriented and ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Ability to work under different time zones and meet stringent deadlines.
  • It is also essential that the candidate demonstrates the ability to understand the needs of clients and to communicate effectively with them, as well as to manage client relations and practice management in general.
  • In addition, the candidate must be ambitious, achievement-oriented, focused and able to work well under pressure in a deadline-driven environment.

This demanding but stimulating position will require working outside of normal office hours when necessary.
