Key Purpose

The key purpose of this role is to be responsible for the conception, design, and delivery of compelling visual ideas across digital, social, and integrated platforms. Working closely with Copywriters and in support of the Creative Director, the Art Director plays a critical role in shaping ideas that are not only visually striking but strategically sound and culturally relevant.

This role requires a strong eye for craft, a deep understanding of digital-first thinking, and the ability to translate brand strategy into intuitive, beautifully executed creative work across web, mobile, social media, and beyond.

Key Roles & Responsibilities
  • Develop strong, original creative concepts in close collaboration with Copywriters
  • Translate ideas into clear visual narratives through storyboards, mock-ups, and design systems
  • Lead and oversee high-quality visual execution across digital, social, and integrated campaigns
  • Interpret briefs with a deep understanding of brand strategy, marketing objectives, and target audiences
  • Take creative work from concept through to final execution, ensuring deadlines and quality standards are met
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Strategy, Digital, Production, and Business Support teams
  • Guide, manage, and mentor junior designers, providing clear creative direction and constructive feedback
  • Confidently present creative ideas and final work to internal stakeholders and clients
  • Stay ahead of digital, design, and cultural trends, applying best practices to elevate creative output
  • Ensure accurate time logging, proper asset management, and adherence to agency processes

Minimum Requirements
  • Matric
  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant creative field (e.g. Design, Visual Communication, Advertising)
  • 5–7 years’ proven experience as an Art Director, preferably in a digital or integrated agency environment
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating digital-first and integrated campaign work
  • Proficiency in industry-standard design tools (Adobe Creative Suite and related tools)
  • Solid understanding of social media platforms and digital ecosystems
  • Experience presenting work to senior stakeholders or clients
