The Opportunity

This position works out of our Johannesburg Roodepoort Offices, Abbott Place, in our Corporate Finance Services (CFS). As Abbott South Africa, we help people live healthier and better lives through our Established Pharmaceuticals, Diagnostics, Nutrition, and Medical Devices business for more than years. We have approximately 300 employees working across Africa.

As an Accountant, you will perform a variety of accounting activities in accordance with accounting principles and standards to control the organization's financial resources and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, laws, and reporting requirements.

What You’ll Do:

  • Manage month-end responsibilities and general accounting.
  • Prepare and report periodic reports to Headquarters within stipulated deadlines.
  • Monthly inventory reporting including PPV, GIT, and reserves.
  • Monthly revenue reporting.
  • Regularly evaluate and manage all debtors' cash allocations and customer-held orders.
  • Deliver timely reconciliations of accounts and investigate and resolve all variances within stipulated timelines.
  • Monitor and adjust credit limits regularly in accordance with Abbott Global Credit Policy.
  • Act as a finance partner to the commercial divisions.
  • Ensure relevant Basic Operating Procedures are relevant and updated when necessary.
  • Assist with and prepare required reports for internal and external audits.
  • Ensure strong internal controls are in place and maintained within the position.
  • Perform all tasks related to internal and external audits within your responsibilities.

Required Qualifications

  • Tertiary finance/accounting qualification is essential.
  • CA(SA) or eligible to register for CA is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a financial accounting role with a strong background in debtors, within the Medical, FMCG, or related industries.
  • Excellent Excel and spreadsheet skills.
  • Good communication skills are essential.
  • A solid understanding of accounting principles including IFRS9, inventory, and revenue recognition.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as an accountant in a large organization or multinational.
  • Experience working with inventory accounting in a manufacturing industry, including reserves, PPV, fixed assets, and standard costing.
  • Analytical skills including problem solving.
  • Personal motivation and commitment.
  • Ability to work with diverse personalities across all levels of the organization.
