Role Overview
We are seeking an Account Director to own and lead a portfolio of client relationships. This role is responsible for client satisfaction, retention, growth, and delivery alignment across SEO and related digital marketing services. The Account Director will be strategically fluent across SEO, digital copy, A/B testing, conversion rate optimization (CRO), and web design. While not executing the work directly, this role must confidently guide conversations, connect initiatives across disciplines, and ensure clients understand how each channel contributes to business outcomes.
Full-time, remote role based in South Africa with required working-hour overlap with US Central and Eastern Time zones.
Key Responsibilities
- Client Relationship & Strategic Leadership
- Serve as the primary relationship owner for a portfolio of SEO and growth-focused clients.
- Lead client calls, performance reviews, and strategic planning discussions.
- Communicate clearly and confidently about SEO strategy and performance, digital copy and content strategy, A/B testing and experimentation, CRO, website structure, UX, and design considerations.
- Translate complex, multi-channel efforts into clear business narratives.
- Set and manage expectations around scope, timelines, and outcomes.
- Strategy Alignment & Growth
- Ensure SEO, content, CRO, A/B testing, and web design initiatives align with client goals.
- Identify cross-channel opportunities to improve performance and drive growth.
- Partner with specialists to recommend next-step strategies based on performance insights.
- Guide clients through evolving search behavior, including AI and LLM-driven discoverability.
- Delivery Oversight & Cross-Team Coordination
- Act as the connective tissue between clients and internal teams (SEO, copy, CRO, design, development).
- Ensure recommendations move from strategy to execution to completion.
- Prioritize work, remove blockers, and maintain momentum across disciplines.
- Performance, Retention & Accountability
- Monitor account health, satisfaction, and engagement.
- Ensure reporting is accurate, timely, and tied to business impact.
- Drive renewals and identify opportunities for account expansion.
- Document decisions, risks, and next steps clearly.
- Maintain accountability without direct people management.
- Scheduling & Time Zone Expectations
- Primary working hours aligned with South Africa business hours.
- Regular overlap with US Central and Eastern Time.
- Occasional flexibility for infrequent client calls outside overlapping hours.
- Strong calendar and time-management discipline required.
Qualifications & Experience
- 5+ years of experience in client-facing account management or account leadership roles.
- Experience working with SEO and digital growth services, ideally in an agency setting.
- Proven comfort discussing and connecting SEO and content strategy, digital copywriting, A/B testing and experimentation, CRO principles, web design and UX considerations.
- Experience managing local SEO and home services clients.
- Strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple client relationships simultaneously.
- Preferred:
- Experience as an Account Director, Senior Account Manager, or similar role.
- Familiarity with AI-driven search, LLM discoverability, and evolving SERP behavior.
- Experience working with distributed, remote teams.
