Nova Pioneer is looking for a superstar Facilities Apprentice who will provide ongoing maintenance and support health and safety at our Midrand Schools.

ABOUT THE ROLE
  • As a Facilities Associate, you will be specifically responsible for the following:
  • Inspect the building and other structures to determine functional systems and detect malfunctions in need of repair.
  • Prepare a schedule for maintenance matters with the operations team and agree when work will be carried out.
  • Perform routine building maintenance tasks in a timely manner.
  • Minimize maintenance disruptions to the running of the school.
  • Adequately respond to maintenance requests.
  • Ensure that all building management equipment has the appropriate policy and standard level.
  • Respond adequately to emergencies or urgent issues as they arise.
  • Health and Safety team member.
  • Landscaping / Handy-man.
  • General maintenance – minor repairs to doors, windows, furniture, fixtures and fittings.
  • Carry out basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical and painting tasks.
  • Replace light bulbs and other small components as needed.
  • Assist with classroom set‑ups (moving furniture, hanging noticeboards, mounting projectors, etc.).
  • Report major maintenance needs to the Dean of Operations (facilities manager) promptly.
  • Conduct daily inspections of the premises for damages and hazards.
  • Maintain school grounds – sweeping, trimming, clearing litter, and ensuring neat presentation.
  • Assist with irrigation, lawn care, garden maintenance where required.
  • Ensure pathways, entrances and emergency exits are free of obstruction.
  • Supports compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Lock and unlock school buildings according to schedule.
  • Ensure that fire extinguishers, alarms, and emergency lightings are functional and accessible.
  • Help during school functions or events.
  • Maintain tools and ensure proper use, storage and security.
ABOUT YOU
  • Grade 12, preferable Technical Diploma, Certificate in plumbing/electrical.
  • Basic training or certification in maintenance, plumbing, or electrical work.
  • Experience in the building/construction 3 years.
  • Gardening 2‑3 years.
  • General maintenance duties 3 years.
  • Knowledge of General Safety principles.
