Job description

About The Role

Grade Level (for internal use):

11

The Role: Senior Carbon Pricing and Markets Analyst

The Team: The Compliance Carbon team is an established part of the Carbon team within the Energy Transition, Sustainability & Services group at S&P Global Commodity Insights. You will work with a highly motivated team of analysts who share the common goals of driving transparency and developing unique insights into compliance carbon markets to create actionable solutions for our customers. You will work with a global team in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment.

Responsibilities And Impact

  • Conduct in-depth research into compliance and voluntary carbon markets, with a focus on the APAC region. This includes supply and demand analysis, price forecasting, and policy tracking.
  • Deliver forward-looking insights to clients by maintaining and enhancing internal datasets and models, and by developing new data sources where needed.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to stay informed on developments in related sectors (e.g., power, steel, crude refining, etc.) that influence carbon markets.
  • Produce high-quality written content that communicates complex market dynamics clearly. Support insights with compelling visuals such as charts and graphs.
  • Engage regularly with clients through calls, meetings, conferences, and events – delivering tailored insights, explaining methodologies, and articulating value propositions.

What We’re Looking For

  • Solid understanding of compliance and voluntary carbon markets and carbon policy drivers (e.g., CBAM), with the ability to communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences.
  • A strong grasp of nuances for carbon market design in emerging markets, e.g., choice of ETS systems, domestic crediting systems, and just transition.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. Knowledge of Power BI visualizations, APIs, and data scraping is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with clients, understand their needs, and independently present research in a clear and impactful way.
  • Collaborative mindset with experience working across multicultural teams and commodities. Strong problem-solving skills and a result-driven approach.
  • A university degree in economics, business, environmental science, public policy, engineering, or a similar related field, along with relevant industry or research experience.

Additional Preferred Qualification

  • Familiarity with broader commodity markets, especially in the energy sector. Experience with integrated cross-commodity analysis is a plus.
  • Experience building forecasts or models, with strong Excel skills.
  • Proven ability to write clearly, visualize data effectively, and present complex analysis in high-level engagements and public forums.
