Job Purpose
To lead and manage maintenance work to ensure work quality and commuter safety, including planning, executing, and reporting on corrective and preventive maintenance activities.
Responsibilities
Track Safety & Maintenance
- Ensure the safety of the track system for train operations by implementing effective and efficient maintenance strategies aligned with the rail business Codes of Practice.
Technical Support
- Provide technical advice and engineering support to line maintenance activities, focusing on improvements through innovation and new technology.
Financial Management
- Monitor and control expenditures to ensure they stay within allocated budgets for both Capital and Operating accounts.
Staff Alignment
- Align staff with the company's vision, mission, and core values through regular communication and development sessions, including progress updates and rollout plans.
Management & Productivity
- Manage supervisory staff and section managers to meet KPIs and maintain high productivity, including:
- Organizing manpower deployment according to workload.
- Reviewing processes for resource deployment.
- Assessing in-house work capacity versus outsourcing options.
- Participating in regular branch performance meetings.
- Training and developing staff for competence and career progression, including identifying learning needs and aligning training programs with SMRTi.
- Maintaining good industrial relations by fostering rapport with ground staff and union representatives and ensuring open communication channels.
Qualifications & Work Experience
- Degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering.
- Preferably at least 10 years of relevant experience, with 5 years in a managerial role.
Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, analytical thinking, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of project management and contractual issues is preferred, with the ability to make impartial contractual judgments.
