Job description

WSP is seeking Health & Safety Inspector who will be responsible for ensuring that all onsite construction/infrastructure activities comply with applicable HSE standards, regulations, codes and project HSE requirements. The role supports the creation of a safe working environment, prevention of incidents, and promotion of a strong safety culture across all contractors and stakeholders.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering (Civil/Mechanical) or related field.
  • Minimum of 5–10 yrs of HSE inspection experience on major construction/infrastructure projects in Saudi Arabia or the GCC region.
  • Certifications such as NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or higher, IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent. Additional certifications (e.g., ISO 45001 Lead Auditor, Fire Warden, First Aid) are an advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of international HSE standards (ISO 45001/14001), OSHA, Saudi regulations, and local approvals/regulators.
  • Proven track record in implementing HSE systems, conducting inspections/audits, incident investigations, and generating HSE reports.
  • Excellent communication skills in English; knowledge of Arabic is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, observation and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work on site in challenging construction environments, adapt to rotating shifts if required, liaise with multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and safety surveillance of work areas, equipment, materials, and operations to identify unsafe conditions, unsafe acts, environmental risks, and non-conformances.
  • Verify that Risk Assessments (RA), Method Statements (MS), Job Hazard Analyses (JHA), Permit-to-Work (PTW) systems, and safe work procedures are in place, followed and documented.
  • Monitor contractor compliance with PPE usage, housekeeping, scaffolding, lifting operations, work at height, confined space, hot work, electrical safety, fire protection, emergency response, environmental protection (waste, emissions, spill control) etc.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, near-misses; carry out root cause analysis; propose corrective and preventive actions; track implementation and closure of action items.
  • Participate in safety inductions, toolbox talks, safety meetings, awareness campaigns; deliver / support HSE training for site staff and subcontractors.
  • Maintain HSE documentation and records: inspection checklists, observation cards, logs of incidents/near misses, KPI tracking, monthly/weekly reports to HSE Manager.
  • Coordinate with project management, engineering, subcontractors and WSP HSE Lead to integrate HSE into planning, scheduling and execution of works.
  • Provide HSE support during project meetings, site walk-downs, client audits and regulatory inspections; highlight HSE performance, trends, risks and improvement opportunities.
  • Monitor emergency preparedness: fire drills, evacuation drills, first aid readiness, firefighting equipment and signage, and ensure corrective actions.
  • Support environmental compliance: waste segregation, spill control, dust and noise control, material handling and storage, efficient housekeeping.
  • Keep updated on Saudi Arabia’s local HSE regulations, Saudi labour law (if applicable), international HSE standards (ISO 45001/14001), and ensure project compliance.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture: encourage reporting of near-misses, hazard observations, safe behaviours, and continuous improvement of HSE performance.
