Overview
Job Purpose: The Workshop Foreman is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the workshop, ensuring efficient maintenance and repair of heavy trucks, tippers, and bulkers. This role involves supervising a team of technicians, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and implementing preventive and corrective maintenance practices to minimize downtime and maximize fleet performance.
Responsibilities
- Workshop Operations & Supervision
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of technicians and mechanics in the workshop.
- Allocate work assignments based on skills, workload, and priority.
- Ensure timely and accurate diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of heavy vehicles and equipment.
- Implement preventive and corrective maintenance schedules to reduce breakdowns.
- Monitor and maintain workshop equipment and tools to ensure proper functionality.
- Technical Support & Troubleshooting
- Provide hands-on technical support in diagnosing mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and trailer issues.
- Guide technicians on complex repair jobs and ensure quality workmanship.
- Review completed jobs to ensure they meet manufacturer and company standards.
- Planning & Coordination
- Plan daily and weekly maintenance schedules for fleet vehicles.
- Coordinate with operations and logistics teams to minimize vehicle downtime.
- Manage spare parts requests and ensure availability of essential components.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Mechanical / Automotive Engineering or equivalent technical qualification.
- 5–7 years of hands-on experience in heavy trucks, tippers, and bulkers maintenance and repair.
- Minimum 2–3 years in a supervisory or foreman role within a workshop environment.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic systems, and trailer/bulker mechanisms.
- Familiarity with preventive and corrective maintenance procedures.
- Knowledge of workshop tools, equipment, and safety practices.
- Basic computer literacy (MS Office, maintenance management systems).
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Valid driving license (Heavy Vehicle license preferred).
