Job description
Key Responsibilities (Details):
  • To maintain and improve safe work practices within the Drill & Blast environment ensuring all personnel are wearing required PPE within the working area.
  • Supervision of the Drill crew & others who assist on the drilling operations.
  • Along with Drilling and Blasting Superintendent organize and control the drilling operations to maximize drilling potential.
  • Comply with and enforce blasting requirements as described in relevant procedures.
  • Preparing the areas to be drilled the Drill Supervisor will ensure that the following criteria are met as procedural requirements
  • Each blast location is competently prepared to a high standard and safe for drilling and blasting operations.
  • Ensure access and exit areas to drill and blast areas have proper signage and area is bermed/coned off as per required standards. No Entry Signs shall be placed at the access point to the drill block to prevent any unauthorized access.
  • All blast holes are drilled according to the Drill Pattern Design and as approved by the Mine Planning Superintendent prior to the blast being approved for advancement.
  • Holes shall be marked according to the Drilling Instruction by the QAQC Surveyor.
  • The drill-hole depth shall be calculated from the collar elevation of the hole, depth will be shown on the Drill Pattern Design.
  • The drill-hole depth and the drill-hole reference number shall be recorded in the daily drill log analysis report.
  • Any abnormal/problem areas within the Drill hole e.g. cavities, soft areas, broken ground must be highlighted on the Drill Log supplied with the Drill pattern design.
  • All holes must be drilled vertically unless advised otherwise.
  • The Drill Supervisor is responsible for all communication between Drill Operators and management.
  • Organizing of drillers between drill rigs as required.
  • Organizing drillers shift schedule and day off.
  • Ensure all company information is kept private and confidential.
  • Liaise with Drilling and Blasting Superintendent and Maintenance to ensure any maintenance/breakdown on drilling rigs are carried out in a safe & effective manner.
  • Provide all accessories such as bits, drill rods, adaptors, etc. as required by drillers and assist driller to change required accessories.
  • Liaise with Mining Superintendent and Mine Planning Engineer to efficiently schedule the drilling requirements to minimize interruption of other mining activities.
  • Liaise with Drilling and Blasting Superintendent to develop and implement procedures that will optimize the drill and blast process.
  • Promote safety within the drill and blast team and actively report hazards, incidents or any workplace related incidents via VFL’s.
  • Maintain and enhance client (MPC) and contractor (Modern Chemical) relationships.
  • The duties and responsibilities described are not a comprehensive list and that additional tasks may be assigned to the employee from time to time; or the scope of the job may change as necessitated by business demands.
