Project Manager: Educational Publishing
At The Content Station we create, edit, design, and deliver content for education publishers.
We partner with content experts, teachers, schools and publishers globally to deliver high‑quality print and digital content for effective learning.
Our team is based across 11 countries and we work with clients on five continents.
The Role
The main objective for the role of Project Manager is to manage projects, both print and digital, as briefed by our clients, with on‑time and under‑budget delivery and to ensure our processes and ways of working are complied with.
The Project Manager, reporting to the PM Team Lead with a dotted line to the Publishing Operations Director, whilst working closely with the Senior Managers and Directors, is to ensure a full understanding of the client's and project's needs and manage the project to delivery.
The Project Manager, reporting to the Head of Content, will work hand‑in‑hand with our regional Directors, to define and refine customer requirements on content development projects.
Key Accountabilities
- Keep project spend under the set budget limit, for all components and tasks.
- Ensure the project team is fully resourced, contracted, and comprehensively briefed.
- Deliver all project deliverables to the mutually agreed schedule and deadlines.
- Ensure project content is of the appropriate quality and to the satisfaction of the client in conjunction with the Content Lead.
Responsibilities
- Ensure clients are provided with a professional, responsive and rewarding customer experience, delivering to the brief.
- Understand and document the workflow and expectations of the project from the kick‑off, and embed them in the project.
- Ensure the correct project team (internal & external) is resourced, including negotiating and briefing, and are qualified for the task.
- Embed the TCS project playbook and processes in each project, from planning to delivery.
- Ensure all project admin, including purchase orders and supplier contracts, are issued in the correct way, at the correct time.
- Manage and keep the schedule up to date, to enable anticipating, identifying, and resolving critical issues in a timely way, with an awareness of all project dependencies.
- Manage and keep the budget tracker up to date, to enable anticipating, identifying, and resolving, critical issues in a timely way.
- Work with the Content Manager or Editors (internal and external) to ensure quality assurance checks have taken place and quality expectations are met.
- Ensure project documentation is complete, current, and appropriately stored; set up folder structure and follow naming conventions.
- Work closely with stakeholders to ensure effective and frequent updates and timely escalation of any issues; problem‑solving and suggesting solutions and mitigations.
- Run relevant update meetings, internally and externally, and ensure frequent client communication.
- Contribute to the TCS supplier database by adding trusted freelancers across a range of tasks.
Additional Responsibilities
- Ensure clients are provided with a professional, responsive and rewarding customer experience to ensure retention of customers.
- As project delivery lead, organize & manage publishing projects to ensure on‑time and under‑budget delivery.
- Embed the TCS project playbook in each project, from planning to delivery.
- Embed the TCS agile project management framework in each project to ensure flexibility, productivity & transparency and high‑quality deliverables.
- Manage real‑time reporting of project status including anticipating, identifying, and resolving critical issues.
- Ensure project documentation is complete, current, and appropriately stored.
- Work closely with stakeholders to ensure effective and frequent updates and timely escalation of any issues.
- Run relevant update meetings, internally and externally, and ensure frequent client communication.
- Manage and report regularly on project budgets & schedules.
- Support the Publishing Resources Director in assessing and building a database of trusted suppliers.
