A. POSITION SUMMARY
The Design-to-Value Engineer will play a key role in continuously reducing product cost and improving the value delivered to customers through data-driven engineering and design optimization. Based in Tijuana, Mexico, this role will focus on analyzing existing products, identifying cost reduction opportunities, and executing design and component changes that lower bill of material (BOM) cost while maintaining product performance, quality, and regulatory compliance. This position is part of the R&D organization and will collaborate closely with global engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and sourcing teams to drive cost efficiency across Sunrise Medical’s product portfolio.
PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and execute design-to-value (DTV) and cost-reduction projects focused on improving material and component efficiency, simplifying assemblies, and eliminating unnecessary cost.
- Analyze existing designs, BOMs, and manufacturing processes to identify cost improvement opportunities.
- Develop and implement design modifications to reduce cost without compromising functionality, quality, or user safety.
- Partner with sourcing and supplier engineering to identify alternate materials, components, or manufacturing processes.
- Perform engineering analyses and validation testing to ensure cost-reduction changes meet all requirements.
- Maintain accurate CAD models, drawings, and engineering documentation for all design changes.
- Collaborate with manufacturing engineering to ensure smooth implementation of design updates in production.
- Track and report cost savings, project status, and performance metrics to R&D and வார்சாய்ப் leadership.
- Support continuous improvement and standardization initiatives across engineering and manufacturing teams.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 3+ years of experience in product engineering, value engineering, or cost reduction roles within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong proficiency in 3D CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, or similar).
- Understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, and common manufacturing processes (metal fabrication, plastics, assembly).
- Experience working with suppliers to identify and implement cost-saving opportunities.
- Solid analytical skills, with the ability to interpret cost data, BOMs, and manufacturing cost drivers.
- Knowledge of Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and value engineering methodologies.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively across functions and regions.
- English proficiency (written and verbal) required; bilingual in Spanish and English strongly preferred.
