Summary of This Role
The Underwriter ll processes and reviews client applications for merchant services making recommendations in accordance with sound credit-granting principles and compliance with Company, Sponsor Bank, Legal and Credit Policy and Procedures. Effectively interacts with merchants, sales representatives, Senior Underwriters and Management to achieve timely underwriting of applications, assessing risk and limiting losses.
What Part Will You Play?
- Make underwriting decision on new and existing merchant accounts based on approval limits and service level agreements (SLAs) in accordance with the Mexico Underwriting Policy.
- Understand the risks associated with the payment processing industry (Fraud, Credit, Regulatory, Legal, etc.)
- Understand the company underwriting policies and underwriting guidelines and demonstrate proficiency in underwriting all new applications consistent with approved underwriting policies and guidelines.
- Verify all information provided on the merchant application and supporting documentation is correct.
- Participate in calls with merchants regarding their applications, when needed.
- Assist sales representatives on how to properly submit merchant applications to minimize delays.
- Evaluates a variety of applications and ensures compliance with laws, bank regulation, corporate and local underwriting policies, procedures and standards.
- Write detailed reviews and perform analysis, including company financial statements, cash flow, quality of assets and earnings, working capital, potential liabilities and risks.
- Analyzes all pertinent credit and financial information, and demonstrates aptitude to interpret and evaluate consumer/business credit bureau reports, financial statements other reporting services, public records and bank files.
- Communicate decisions effectively in both verbal and written communication.
- Properly file paperwork.
- Demonstrate good listening, interpersonal and team working skills.
- Support business growth and process improvement initiatives, incuding assigned projects.
- Additional primary duties will be assigned as required.
What Are We Looking For in This Role? Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting or combination of a related degree and experience (Collections, Accounting, Underwriting, Credit Banking, Finance, Mortgage, Etc.)
- Typically minimum 2 years relevant experience in finance/accounting, credit, risk or equivalent experience in a related field required would be an asset.
- Competency reading credit reports.
- Strong understanding of and ability to read financial statements, tax returns and other similar documentation.
- The ability to understand industry requirements and make sound decisions with less than perfect information.
- Previous knowledge of the payment processing industry is preferred.
- English and Spanish is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal/customer relation skills.
- Ability to complete assigned tasks, within tight deadlines and with little supervision.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work in team driven environment while working independently to complete daily tasks.
- Ability to follow all company policies and procedures; as well as internal departmental procedures.
- Demonstrate a growth mindset.
