ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

Global hunger has reached alarming levels in 2022 and WFP the Nobel Peace Prize winner in 2020 remains dedicated and committed to address this global food crisis. The United Nations Humanitarian Response Depot (UNHRD) is a network of strategically located hubs established to support humanitarian organizations and the broader international community in responding to emergencies and crises. UNHRD provides essential services such as storage easy access to critical supplies and technical assistance.

The position holder will work under the supervision of the UNHRD Brindisi Head of Facility management Unit and will support the unit by carrying out skilled site maintenance tasks and assisting in the day-to-day upkeep of the Brindisi hub facilities. This includes performing routine maintenance supporting logistics arrangements and contributing to a functional working environment in line with established procedures and safety standards.

JOB PURPOSE

To provide a full range of skillful site maintenance services including installation maintenance and repair of equipment / appliances to support safe comfortable and reliable working environment. The candidate will provide technical guidance and support to 2 site maintenance staff and assist in coordinating daily tasks under the supervision of the Facility Management Associate .

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

(not all-inclusive nor exhaustive)

• Plan, coordinate and provide a full range of site maintenance and installation works to ensure preventive maintenance (e.g. for generators, water heaters, water pumps, etc.) is carried out regularly, ensuring well-functioning equipment.
• Coordinate portering and cleaning services to ensure organized, safe and clean work environment.
• Support deployment of and provide technical supervision to external contractors to facilitate efficient and cost-effective servicing or intervention for any major electrical installations, maintenance or repairs.
• Install, maintain and repair all kinds of electrical equipment and appliances including wiring and distribution systems to ensure safe and reliable working environment in compliance with electrical standards.
• Perform regular and ad hoc installations, repairs and maintenance of plumbing systems and components to ensure all installations meet established safety standards.
• Assist in maintaining accurate inventory records through physical check and maintenance of lists / database and arrange disposal of identified equipment and materials strictly following WFP assets management guidelines.
• Compile and provide accurate reports on works undertaken, services provided, materials procured and used for installations / repairs including accurate generator fuel logbooks to support accurate accounting and enable efficient planning for future works / services.
• Contribute to evaluation of required installation / repair works, compare prices of materials and contribute to planning of future preventive maintenance works to support efficient and cost-effective site maintenance services.

OTHER POST REQUIREMENTS

• Support the Facility Management Unit in coordinating routine and special maintenance of a 20-hectare base, including offices, training facilities and warehouses, in compliance with Italian law and UN regulations.
• Provide technical and logistics assistance to training courses and events by installing emergency camps, setting up internal and external areas, organizing spaces and provide necessary arrangements to both organizers and participants.
• Support coordination with the military and private security forces to facilitate access to the base following the established security standards and procedures.
• Keep records of furniture and inventory numbers.
• Assist in preparing basic Scope of Works prior the launch of a maintenance-related new tender or renewal of an existing contract and support communication with service providers to facilitate the timely delivery of services under the unit management.

Essentials

• Experience in civil works including preventive maintenance such as painting and minor construction (drywall false ceilings etc.).
• Ability to perform works that are required to complete / improve the work of external contractors to reach the desired quality when necessary.
• Provide technical guidance to external contractors during specific maintenance schedules to enable efficient and cost-effective services.
• Strong knowledge of materials activities and processes used to build and maintain civil works.
• Ability to work in a multicultural environment and possess good communication skills.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel Word and Power-point

• Certification for plant protection products (PPPs)
• Driving licenses (C-E-CQC-ADR)

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Education : Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area is desirable.

Experience : Four or more years of proven effective experience in site maintenance

Language : Proficiency Level B in English language. Fluency in Italian is required. Knowledge of another UN language is desirable.

Reside within commuting distance (100-kilometer radius or distance that can be covered within 1.5 hours by car or public transport under average conditions of traffic, weather and roads) to the office location at the duty station World Food Programme UNHRD Brindisi Ex SS 16 Km 906.9 72100 Brindisi Italy). If not residing within commuting distance at the time of application candidates must be willing to relocate to Brindisi, Italy at their own cost before taking up the assignment. WFP shall not be responsible for any costs associated with such relocation nor shall WFP assist or otherwise be involved in obtaining residency status or legal work permits. Preference will be given to candidates who reside within commuting distance of Brindisi, Italy.
